Yep...very variable. Available almost everywhere at prices that are also very variable.
Can be excellent for the money one year but pretty ropey in another.

Miguel Torres,

As well as being Spanish giants, Torres also have a sizeable operation in Chile. ‘We went to Chile in 1979, when we were the first foreign wine company’, says Miguel. ‘My father and I agreed we should have a base in South America’. There were a number of tax advantages in producing wine in South America, so Miguel was sent out to explore Argentina and Chile, and decided to settle on Chile, for reasons of good soils, climate and people. It was a long-term investment and Torres now produce 4 million bottles in Chile, which is 1% of all exports, going to 50 different markets

Torres Coronas was once wonderful value.

Mas la Plana was once a superb cab from penedes.

What happenned to quality and consistency and QPR ?

That guy has made His millions, and needs to buck his ideas up today. Disappointing wines in the last 7 years or so. Too big for his own boots is my opinion. I'm not buying and I did 10 or so years ago ! May be a one hit wonder, just now and again, then recently dull, BUT
He and the rest of the operation live on the old name that was once ............a revelation in the late 80's.

Bring back the old small firm, well, there is no turning back. Not buying.

Think you have a point there D, Ive commented several times before on the this forum regarding the decline in the quality of Vina Sol, if a producer wishes to continually market their wine in the '£5' bracket despite rising costs there is only one component left to cut, quality.

Bargain quaffers are increasingly hard to find, one of my best finds this year is this. Rawnsley Estate SB 2011, however I did not pay full price, cant quite remember exactly what I paid, around £5 after discounts. An SB with lots of character, a real surprise and loved by everyone I have served it to.
