Just back from France and managed to buy a few wines.

Ch Beaumont haut me doc 2010 9.95 euros,
Ch La Landede de Pez 2010 10.95 euros,
Ch Mauvesin 2010 7.70 euros,

Jean Marie Alsace Riesling 3.25 euros and a good value quaffer
Roche Guilhem Jurancon 2011 5.65 euros,
Chateau Roquehort Jurancon 2011 4.95 euros,
Fancy trying a new region for whites especially after funding Winks book.

Lots of cheap CDR for 2-3 euros never seem to fail for mid week glass.
Lots of Loire and Alsace fizzes plus a strange red from Tunisia called sidi brahim ?

No pudding wines though nothing jumped out on my few trips out.
Too much 2011-2012 now in stock not for me at present.

First bottle opened last night after a 14 hour drive was a 2.19 euro bottle of CDR Villages 2011 Charles Adelin a good percentage of Grenache over Syrah, nice fresh peppery edge finish is short but good value.

Hope everyone is well and your wines have be rewarding and fun.

Richard

Nice haul Rich :) You found some decent weather as well.

I don't know .... La Landede ! Is that a property split from the De Pez satelites ?

Did you mean - Chateau Lalande de Pez, Saint Estephe 2010 ?

Nice trad Estephe and on a good vintage and a damn Good Price. Bargain - Enjoy in 2016 onwards

Ch Grand Faurie Larose - St Emilion GC 2007

Rich, I will take a couple when my Local Maj actually has this wine in stock !

I went in on Friday last week, I took a few Chateau Griviere CB Medoc '06. For Griviere fans the '06 is disappointing. I'll try and find 2004 Griviere at another store when I find the Faurie Larose

This Merlot 60% dominated left bank claret, opened reasonably, with a perceived Cab franc note (However, no Cab franc claimed in this cuvee !) , but the wine went downhill and flat the next day - very little lift on the palate, a drying finish. There may be bottle variance of course.

BBR say that '06 Merlot was not that clever on the left bank, rains fell just as the Merlot was ready for picking, and the Cab sauvignon 40% was not yet ready, and best picked later and well after the rain, when everything dried up at the start of October - I'm tending to agree.

Best 2006 petite chateau left bank clarets were Cab dominated and picked late, BBR say.

Unfortunate.

Hey Rich. Sounds like a nice haul
Where abouts in France did you visit?
I'd to tour a few regions for some chateau tours some time but think I'll more likely have to settle for a booze cruise over at Calais instead

Shezza, hi I have a little cottage in the Creuse / Limousin so pop into a few towns nearby .
Only one wine merchant shop close by and the day I went she was shut !

Not a vast choice but each town seemed to have a bargain / good offer on.
No silly half price deals like in the UK though.

A trip across would be fun I know a good shop not far from Calais even though I have never made a purchase yet.
