VdP d'Oc PGI and reduced from £12.50. Despite being very nice this doesn't quite justify it's rave reviews. Quite temperature sensitive, but get it right and I love it. Good also in day two. £10 ?? maybe, has more depth and length than most Vios and should I need a decent Vio then this would fit the bill.

Open the wine, and sulphur exudes out of the bottle. Carafe this wine to try and shake the damn thing out. You can't shake it out. Sulphur is solid in this. Plus - the wine is too dry, dull and thin in the mouth, and the body is pretty poor. Zero unction

Do not buy this wine - hoping to get a succulent viognier. You will not get it !

We were having a whole baked camenbert in a clay crucible with a clay lid with garlic bulbs stuck in the top of the white crust. This wine was absolutely naff.

I had to rush to my cellar and get out a 2002 Monbazillac as compensation for my guests - the Monbazillac, Chateau Le Reyssac was truly beautiful and amazing.

Don't believe the hype

I should go back to France to buy a decent Monbaz, where can you buy a decent one in England !

Good reviews on tha maj site and many other places.

Jamie Goode says...'Lovely stuff. Beautifully aromatic nose with tangerine peel, apricot, honey and vanilla notes. The palate has a lovely texture and great balance, with bright fruit, a hint of sweetness and a rich texture. Rich but not too rich, this is the qualitative equal of a good Condrieu. 90/100 (Not available in the UK yet; 6 Euros ex-cellar price)

Yep, I accept that as a possibility. Certainly not corked ? Based on past experience and not oxidised either - oxidisation does not generate sulphur !

There are bottle batch numbers on the 2010 release, so I exchanged a pair with my local store for a different batch number.

Much improved now. The acting store manager on the day demonstrated to a new member of staff, what an overdose of sulphur feels like on the nose and palate as a training session.

I'm still disappointed with the overly soft structure of the wine, acidity is a tad short, flavour at refreshing serving temps is rather one dimensional, ok Apricot and marzipan - no vanilla oak perceptable. There is quite good texture at this price. Ba confirms exactly this dilemna.....Serving temperature is parramount with this wine to get some of the flavours that Jamie Goode raves about.

At full price, this wine may not seduce you away from good Vouvray, Monbazilac and dryer Cadilacs - If you can get them in the UK !

I won't buy again, and my next viognier will have to be higher up on the pecking order to see exactly where the flavours of this grape can go. Perhaps Mr Vio will advise where the quality and complexity is higher.

Certainly a Wine to buy and try - ring the changes.

Ba, I don't know the '11. You may know better from other viogs you've tried recently.

The St Ferréol 2010 is much improved. The sulphur has dissipated. This wine needs two years from release to harmonise. It is (to my mind) still rather soft though. A reasonable viognier for base flavour, but a little short, I feel it lacks concentration. Should one expect more ? I dont know these wines........

Yeah, a reasonable white wine, with some interest when not refrigerated, but nothing to shout about.
