It is Chablis but it is not Chardonnay.....

I was brought up with Burgundy & Chablis = Chardonnay but there is just one Appellation in Burgundy where they grow Sauvignon Blanc..

Waitrose have an AC Saint Bris Savignon by Simonnet Febvre on offer at 6.99. Will open it Friday....

Edited to say it is 2009 vintage
and it has a lovely screw cap

Awarded AOC in 2003 say Wiki.

It's been around since the 70's, I remember in the mid / late 70's, early days for them, when Majestc first started stocking it from a producer (whose name escapes me just now) that they no longer use.

Goose will tell you if it's any good though. I've bought in the past for novelty reasons and to try. But now, the vineyards re-planted with SB and S.Gris, some 40 years ago should be maturing, so there is every reason to consider it.

A map showing the area south west of Chablis and north east of Sancerre should indicate some other odd balls

Had a William Fevre St Bris from Waitrose. Very intense peanutty flavour. Mel got peanuts as well so not just me.

Unusual and well made but not a flavour that appealed enough for me to investigate the region further.

Good Sancerre style SB, not as acidic as MB SB. I didn't get any peanuts, but its a different wine, muted gooseberry and lime

Got one today. They only had 09s.
Yet another that doesn't like too much cold. Comparable with the Calvet Touraine, and no peanus for me.

How remiss of me not to name the vintage - it was 2009
