Im going in tonight, I plan to pick up some of the Yali Carmenere plus a bottle of the TTD Prossygeko for her indoors.

Im looking for a decent NW Pinot for over the holidays too, any suggestions? Gulf Station?

GK.....In my mega store, there were notices up saying finishing Tuesday 7th.......

Please confirm, I'll try again for the Crusted.

I looked at De Bertoli's Gulf Station, but also there is one from Central Otago "Wuthering Heights" or something, but also on the '08 which very nearly got me.

Mel ? Shez ....Anyone here ? - please advise. Mel was doing new world pinot noir before Christmas.

GK .....Has the Sains 25% deal been extended ? - Morrison's too far off just now. I do want to be crusted, your carrot cake finish and that tannic streak has my mouth watering.......

I haven't tried it yet, but I picked up a TTD Chilean PN as it was double discounted £7.99 down to £5.99 plus 25% = £4.50 and I noticed it is made by Montes. Got to be worth a try at that price.

I guess you're looking for something a bit higher. There is not much at Sainsbury's. If they stock it the Gulf Station is probably you're best bet.

I noticed my local Co-op has more of the Cromwell Cellars CO PN on offer at £7.50. That is very good value. I also thought the Majestics Peaks at majestic for £7.50 was good but only tasted in store. I don't think that is one for Duncan though, its er, lets say "approachable" :lol:

I dont know if the -25% promo is still running but I was only going in for a couple of bottles, I think I mentioned earlier I have a bunch of Sains vouchers to spend so Im getting some stuff for over xmas.

Im making my famous Stuffing roll this weekend, I make two rolls and freeze them both ready for xmas & new years day.

If you have the time, forget about those silly little sausages wrapped in bacon and give this a go, plenty of wow factor for the table and utterly delicious.

The -25% promo was still running in my store last night, they didnt stock the Yali tho. In fact, I dont recall their wine isle ever looking so barren.

GK - I did acquire 3 x Grahams Crusted with 3 hours to go, as well as a De Bortoli Gulf Station PN, a Wairapa Hills Southern Cross PN '08 IWC gold and an '08 Pessac Leognan rouge. All done to Mrs D's mobile.

The Gulf Station 13% ABV may be a bit hot and smokey though - I forgot to mention that only the '08 should be bought :oops:

Château le Thil, Comte de Clary “Reflets” 2008 becomes one of the newest red Bordeaux listings at Sainsbury at £14.99 a bottle (on offer at £11.99 until 4 January)

Produced from a small 20 hectare site in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Chateau le Thil Comte de Clary has been described by Robert Parker as a “brilliant over-achiever” and something of a “sleeper” in the 2008 vintage.

Located in the middle of three illustrious Grand Crus; Bouscaut, Carbonnieux and Smith-Haut-Lafitte, this lesser known vineyard enjoys similar soil credentials with the potential to produce exceptionally fine wine.

“Reflets” is a special cuvee produced at Le Thil from a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Having spent twelve months in oak casks, the 2008 is showing the promise of a dense blackberry nose with opulent dark fruit aromas on the palate with a hint of cedar and tobacco.

Probably more famous for its historical connection, Chateau le Thil was a gift from Bonaparte to his fiancé Désirée Clary. During the promo, I could only get one of these, savvy folks in west Reading kept on clearing them 1st thing in the morning.

The December promo pricing was this:- £16.99 less £4 less 25%. Therefore Sains took 75p more per bottle - than the promo offer would have calculated, if it was applied to the early November launch price.

Pricing promo analysis - how boring is that ? :( git that I am.

Port advice wanted GK.

I've been laying down Vintage port, as one would a big cab or claret, so that the tannin stain and sediment and any tartaric crystals always form opposite the label. Pouring and decanting then, and if in a hurry if not planned, can then be always remembered to be label down.
GK, I have very little experience of this, but decades ago, it use to form a custed ring about 2/3rds of the way down the bottle - as if stood upright ?

Is this the correct practice for Crusted Port ?

Sorry GK - Too much information from me !

I should store the crusted on its side, the same way as a vintage port - Is that correct ?

The crusted port does not form a crusty ring around the inside of the bottle ? Is that correct ? It use to in the old days !

I will open one at Christmas and report back :)

I see... I finished a bottle yesterday, quite a bit of sediment left. I tend to stand unfiltered / VP wines up for a couple of days before opening, then decant or carefully pour straight from bottle. I see no problem with laying down your crusty-p, not for too long tho, I feel this wine is just right for drinking now, what you gain in maturity you could loose in body, flavour and 'bite' from the lesser fruit's freshness.
