I have enjoyed this wine this evening, Majestic special parcel - a six box and not discounted.
The oak is more integrated on the 2nd day. I do like the french oak with the expressive peach primary character. The taste of fresh white peaches in a northern European climate (Loire warmth), Honeysuckle notes and lovely vanilla oak on the nose. Medium dry, lively acidity, but in check. I'm glad I took a punt on this, it is a carefully crafted wine, with real personality, and very similar to the famous Guigal viognier wines, yet at 40% of the price. Jancis said the "dom be good" viog 2013 was a tad formulaic (spelling). I think the producers, James & Catherine Kinglake have mastered the style for this vintage. Memorable and enjoyable. A couple of years in the cooler will harmonise the overall effect. It is a wine that I would drink in the short term - Fresh is best for this, 2 -4 years.
