Not convincing

The gander was taking a bite out of my bum!......Ba - the comic earnt a good chuckle here, why stop there. My drinking mates recon I bang on about burgundy tooooooooo – so take a pop while you can.

Surreptitiously introducing another take on Bichot. Ha! Diplomacy got the better of him later, and the goose was bought in to cover it off.

B was wonderful. At 8.25 yesterday morning I started with 2009 Morey 1er Cru Les Sorbets, Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot. Even at that time and that age, they were beautiful. More than could be said of Bordeaux, I think.

Mel,

A few '05 Pommard 1er Cru Clos Micault from Bichot could come my way.

Did you try any of the lower affordable slopes at Albert Bichot. Further, did you try any Clos Micault.

Let us know, if you have a mo. Thanks

No, I didn't taste that particular wine.

Tasted

Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens, Dom du Pavillon 2008
Rich, dark colour. Concentrated, dark smell. Sturdy, dark and spicy in the mouth. A big wine.

This when tasted against other 2008s:

Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru, Aux Clous
Nuits Saint Georges, dom du Clos Frantin
Echezeaux Grand Cru, Dom du Clos Frantin

Skip this Ba, just sorting out some stuff:

Albert Bichot Pommard Premier Cru Clos Micault 2007: This vineyard lies at the bottom of the slope in Pommard. It is less expressive than the Ursulines, and has a more tense, grippy, structured character on the palate. It is powerful, quite tannic, but with a good texture and some polished, rather stony fruit. This is one for the cellar I think. 16-17+/20

Albert Bichot Domaine du Pavillon Pommard Premier Cru Les Rugiens 2007: In contrast to Clos Micault this vineyard lies at the top of the Pommard slope. There is black cherry and smoke on the nose, with a faint trace of sweet oak. This has a very different style, more polished, firm and structured, but this is nicely covered through the midpalate. Broad, cottony, finely styled, this should be very good indeed. 16.5-17.5+/20

'07's were softies for firm Pommard. '08's much much better in every way (I'm told)

I wonder - Les Rugiens is higher on the thinner marl, rather than on deeper silt and some clay, before rooting into limestone. The one you tasted is a finer style. But 05 is the one for keeping, for velvety texture, for ripeness.

That darkness Mel, was it nice pinot darkness ? Or always needing food, even when very ready.

Cheers
