Post subject:  Do you still need this forum?

Hi all
This is Meriel, Mel's friend who is slightly in charge of domain name and the hosting for QO.
So, the domain name is up for renewal and I am wondering if you guys need this forum to continue being here? Are you using it enough to warrant the maintenance and expense?

I need to renew by 17th October so if you can email me at qo@2m.org.uk with your thoughts that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Whilst there are only a few regular contributors, there are hundreds of views.

If we are doing some good, it would be nice to keep it running for a while as a memorial.

I'm sure that we regulars would be happy to chip in a few quid should that be of help.

I've been hanging around here for quite some time and it will be sad to see it go, however I can understand there is a cost issue and the site does not make money in any way I can see- not enough activity to justify Ads.

I once suggested moving this to a free platform such as Facebook, perhaps under the Quaffers name. If someone wants to create the page and be admin i will partake. There are many benefits to a FB page, uploading photos and videos etc. Of course, that would mean having to come out of the dark for some of us................ 8)

WHAT a good idea. I admin a biker's site and would be happy to set this up and admin it.

Is it OK to use the Quaffers name ?

Seems that there are a few FB pages with 'quaffer' involved. but an apostrophe and 'offers' should make us unique.

Thanks for the replies and thoughts. If you would prefer to keep it on the Forum, it costs £14.37 for the domain name for 2 years and at the moment I am hosting it alongside my commercial clients at a rate of £35/year. So it isn't a huge amount, and I am happy to carry on doing that.
If we decide to keep it going, I think a little revamp would be a good idea - suggestions welcome!

However, if you think a Facebook page would give you a bit more leeway with photos and videos etc, then let me know and I will ask Mel's children and David to see if they have any objections about the name - I would mention it to Sandra (Birds with Bottle) as well.

I will renew the domain for now and if we make 31 October the deadline for a decision, that gives everyone some time to think about it.

I am glad to see that you are all keeping in touch with each other and it is a nice memorial.
Meriel

Indeed B, I took a look the other day, couldnt see a 'Quaffers Offers' page, but even if we're not allowed to use that exact phrase there are plenty to work with, 'Quaffers & Scoffers' etc., bring good food into it, restaurant recco's with decent wine lists.

I run my companies webpage, plus I have several of my own art page's and an e-commerce site to run, don't want to take another one on but if you set the page up I will join, others will follow Im sure.

Happy to go with either option.
Would seem a shame to let this lapse after all the good work Mel had done.

Well, if it's only those costs then I am firmly in favour of keeping this web page.

Perhaps some new twists to get more active peeps involved. Yeah Meriel, saving it is good.

Could this be a monthly thing?

Running out of space then restarting on the first of each month.
