Let me, by wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year, be the first to post in 2017! Tonight I'm off to a super local steak restaurant that offers free corkage on Monday nights, and I'll be taking Ridge Lytton Springs Zinfandel 2010. What wine would you take to a steak restaurant I wonder? |

Happy new year Pontac Lucky you having free corkage at a steak restaurant. There used to be one I went to in Covent Garden that did the same on a Monday but sadly no longer does it. All other options are at least £5 a bottle now. Lucky you also on the Ridge Lytton Zin. A friend of mine brought that along to a byo night we had a few months back. Also had the Ravenswood Lodi Zin to compare it to as a benchmark. The Ridge was head and shoulders above it. A lovely drop I meet up with a friend for a byo at a Turkish restaurant every 2-3 weeks so we set different themes each time based on grape variety or region or vintage or just something we really want to try. If I were to take a bottle from my "cellar" along to a steak restaurant right now I'd probably plump for 2006 Parker Estate terra Rossa Cabernet (if not that, then a 2007 chateau Le Boscq St Estephe) How did you find the Zinfandel? |

There were three of us so I took two bottles, we started on 2014 Ravenswood Zinfandel Old Vine Lodi and then went onto 2010 Ridge Lytton Springs Both were enjoyable, but not really comparable, the Ridge is about 3 times the price of the Ravenswood. I've been drinking a fair amount of Ridge in the US recently, and especially in Steak restaurants so I rather link it with steak. TWS recently had Ridge in their New World Titans offer see http://www.thewinesociety.com/resources ... -dec16.pdf I bought Ridge 1st Release Mixed Case at £159 A six-bottle case containing 2 Bottle(s) of Ridge East Bench Zinfandel 2014 2 Bottle(s) of Ridge Geyserville 2014 2 Bottle(s) of Ridge Lytton Springs 2014 The East Bench (which I had a couple of times in the US) was only available in the mixed case, the Geyserville is now sold out but they currently have Lytton Springs in stock. |
