I said I would do a few of these when I followed the Anthony Rose (Indy) article. Lidl have a strong presence in Europe so you'd expect that they'd have good relationships with producers and dealers there.

A generic St Emilion grand cru 2012 "regional gold medal for '12" from the union of St. Emilion producers was £8.99.
A fruity and very forward right bank wine. A hot August in 2012 has ripenned the merlot, but a wet September has retarded the Cab Franc. So you get a half decent french merlottly claret without a lot of Franc influence. . . . . which is a pity. Not bad at all, will accompany the roast birds very well, deep colour (ripe merlot skins), satisfactory grip, a bit hollow in the mid palate, a bit one dimensional, oak is right for the fruit, well balanced. . . . But hey ! £9.00. No complaints. good till 2017 perhaps.

A Serabel Cotes du Rhone villages 2012 was £5.49 - (the Serabel Vacqueras '12 was decent)
This is very decent CdR, I like it a lot. Superior to Tesco's and Waitrose CdR in this price bracket. Authentic yet fruity, and with real palate hold, shortish but flavourful length, just as it should be. Deep colour and some legs as a "Villages" wine used to be. I preferred this a little cooler than normal, fresh and refreshing as well - Good stuff.
keep till end 2016 tops. :qofgoodvalue: for £5.49 :qofgold:
