Is it just me or is the new M&S site a bit crap?

http://www.marksandspencer.com/c/food-and-wine

I especially like the feature where they automatically change the webpage before you've had time to figure out where you're going next.

Its not so bad once you know your way around, the food & serving suggestions is a welcome addition.

Much the worst feature is that the 25% off has disappeared.

At least they let you pick by varietal and vintage now
Previously their website was rubbish for filtering options

The 25% off 2 cases still seems to be there

So it is...wasn't where I was looking. Put it down to traumatic stress and unbearable hardship.

(Petrol leak on bike  )

The house and I smell like a Monnow Valley Riesling.

I logged in the other day, 19th Feb when they told the customers that a new web site was created, I got a voucher for the credit on my account. This because the old account look-up software didn't work after they played about with it ! Duh...... I printed off the voucher from another web link, and gave to my dear Misses to use in the store

The open white look of the site is pretty bl**dy trendy at the moment, the pale charcoal and small font descriptions is also annoyingly trendy - a damn nuisance actually.

For shareholders, a waste of time and money. This site will not run in IE8 MS Explorer or earlier web brousers, so older customers, or those not interested in the latest lap tops & smart phones etcetera, will be very Pi**ed Off with this development. Runs best in Mozilla Firefox or google chrome. For people wanting to have a workman like, and quick scan of products, I think this new site is rather poor. Very typical of the new fresh faced web designers who have no experience of loyal customers or pretty much anything in the past. Yeah, I'm crumpy ! Why try to re-invent the wheel ? It doesn't impress me. The old site with a few new features, and clear sort indexes, and range product finders would have been better for at least 50% of their loyal customers, and a hell of a lot cheaper to produce.

It is the products on offer - Not the look of the web site, for Pete's sake.

I did the survey - yeah Ok, sad git that I can be, sometimes !

That's my two cents - and it's free.

As for wine bargains - red France - only the cote de Blaye 2009 Ch Marzin looked to be particularly competetive at this time. Sadly - most of the other affordable 2010 clarets have gone. Red and white Burgundy has shot up in price. The Chablis offers were neutral - verging towards expensive. Everyone is drawing in their horns, not just Marks.

I agree with most of that. Very flakey in IE.

Trying to get an car insurance quote recently, the site kept bouncing me back to 'details' and would not supply a quote. Eventually I realised that the 'mobile number' box had turmed red. They would not supply a quote without a mobile number.
So I made one up of two digits repeating themselves (after 07) and that satisfied the idiots.

Thanks for clarifying that GK. This appears to be the way these boys are going. I'm guessing that the site will run well on a new iPad then. My preference is very old fashioned in the world of web page layout. I like the web pages to run like excel spreadsheets with freeze frame locators correctly positioned. That way, the page keeps the important headings and side margins properly intact, so when scrolling you know where you are, and why you are on that web page !

So much for these fresh faced newbies. De-skilling the web page in my view. Oh well - we have to move with the times, we have no choice, you get it, or you're out !

Cheers GK.

No problem.

I have the Nexus 7 2nd Gen and can confirm its an incredibly powerful piece of kit, full 1080p HD, quad core. Actually I got it for my daughter but the three of us now fight over it, I'm not really into gaming but I've become addicted to miniclip's 8-ball pool game, cant stop playing the damn thing

.

Marks & Spencer reported to the city yesterday that their website trading was down 8% this quarter !
Another quick survey among my acquaintances in the locality, informs me that the site will not run properly on a significant number of old laptops and desktops. None of these people will buy from their iPhones, they need glasses to read a text
The responses from those using older kit has been . . . . . . . Well Amazon and Ebay are fine, so is John Lewis and all the bank stuff is good ! So why did Marks mess about with their website without having a compatible platform for us ?

I note that the senior website developer at Marks has flown the nest, or was he pushed ? Being a loyal customer and shareholder, I think the M & S Board need to wise-up, they have been duped once again !

I like Mark's products and services, I quite like their web site on Mozilla Firefox, but they need to make sure for at least another 2 years or so, that everyone can still use their online service.

Elementary stuff it seems, but not to wizzkids !
