Post subject: | Dom Robert Gibourg - Beaune Montee Rouge 2009 - MAJ |
This is a full and rich Beaune. Montee rouge can be a Prem Cru, or, as recognised in the ancient land registry kept by the wine producing monks a "lieu-dit" in recognition of the parcel of vineyards there. The Beaune 2009 summer and harvest have produced a pinot noir that is still quite sweet, and the primary cherry and damson fruit is dark and most prevalent all over. A well stained cork already There is correct tart cherry, cherry stone twist, and some soft earth on the back palate, and the wine is mouth coating. The wine is not ready, and at the mo, it has something of a De Kyper cherry brandy note about it, that I am hoping will calm down (go away) - Perhaps too ripe a wine for its own good ! Not too hot per se', but a bit full-on and new world like for the purists, medium oak, vanilla and farmyard are yet to develop in this transitional stage. The wine was bought from Majestic, a bargain for a Beaune lieu-dit, Offer was less than £15 at the time, can't find the receipt. I feel the wine will come good in another 2-3 years. So if anyone bought some stock, please be patient. I'm keeping mine. Could become typical Beaune lush with some complexity in time..... here's hoping, and I'm optimistic. I never write about burgundies when I buy release offers, they're not ready - paying for someone else to do the sucessful cellaring, doubles the price - sorry for that. 06/09/2013 |
