Got a £12 voucher at the check-out this morning towards a first on-line shop. Ordered some biker-unfriendly (heavy / large) stuff and 6 bottles of wine. All the bits and pieces were on 'special' plus 25% off the wine plus £12 voucher. Luuuuvit. |

What did you buy ? Apart from the Luis Canas privada 2005 Rioja at 16.99, the La Capannuccia Chiati Rufina reserva 14.99, and the cheap Chartreuse de Bonpass CdR, the red selection looks typically rather dull. I'm fed-up with British supermarkets - same old choices, suitable for moronic British palates - Are they, are we Morons ? Or do they / we get used to what they / we get offered ! I want to pay a bit more, for MUCH better wines. Ba - please cheer me up. |

Cheers Mr B. Thanks for the cartoon. The best way to overtake this, is to drink from my cellar. |

Duncan - Have you tried the 2011 Chartreuse? I really enjoyed the 07/08 but the 09/10 I found a little too jammy. I haven't tried one yet but I think the 11 should be more similar to the 07 season. Been really enjoying a few bottles of the Mas de Victor Graciano from Sains lately. Lovely warm weather red. |

Sorry V, I've not risked the 2011 until I see a reliable TN. As you say, the Ch de Bonpas '07, was brilliant, a great southern Rhone vintage for these cheapies. The '09 Ch de Bon was not in the same league ? The '10 should have been good - dunno ? To get back to good Rhone, I moved my loyalty to Laithwaites to stay with the lovely '09's in the north and '10's - I'm drinking exemplary Rhones that were on offer at £8.99 at present. That offer has expired now though - However if you can put together a Rhone dozen again at STWC / Laithwaites during the Summer spree - remember these: I'll post the links Cairanne 2010 Crozes Hemitage 2009 Vinsobres 2009 I know that this is more than we like t pay, however - these Rhones are exemplary. Furthermore, they are all capable of developing further. The Cairanne will develop well over many a moon. Many say that a cave de tain Crozes can be a tad short of fruit ! Not this one above, loaded with lush black cherry fruit, and not too dry, a sweeter finish ! - extraordinary Syrah from the super '09 vintage in the northern parts. With discipline, I can "just about" make these wines last over three nights, because they are more satisfying and longer on the palate. I'm now looking for an '09 St Joe of similar calibre for less than a tenner |
