I thought these wines were quite OK. Not suggesting you buy two cases for laying down, but not bad at all. All from Tesco. Quirky Bird Sauvignon Semillon Nouvelle 2012 £6.99 Accolade Wines Apparently Nouvelle is a grape variety. No, me neither. Fresh, grassy nose. Bright, tart and refreshing. Nice wine. Fair price. 12.50% Quirky Bird Chenin Semillon Muscat 2012 £6.99 Accolade Wines A hint of muscat on the nose. This carries through into the palate. It's not bad at all. The aftertaste is muscat, but dry. Quite good. Slightly prefer the Sauv/Sem/Nouvelle. 12.50% Quirky Bird Shiraz Mourvèdre Viognier 2012 £6.99 Accolade Wines Fragrant and a little like hoppy beer or shandy. Quite a nice fruity little wine. Some sweet vanilla. Easy drinking and very perfumed. 14% |

Nouvelle is a recent SA hybrid. Semillon x Trebbiano (Ugly Blanc). |

BA, Surely you mean "semi ugly" an unfortunate synonym - don't you think ! Ugni blanc synonyms, derivatives & clones from the look-up just now for Italy: Also known as Branquinha, Clairette à grains ronds, Clairette Ronde, Douradinha, Bouan, Procanico, Roussan, Talia, Trebbiano Giallo, Trebbiano di Lugana, Trebbiano di Soave, Trebbiano di Toscana, Trebbiano Fiorentino, Trebbiano Romagnolo, Trebbiano Spoletino, Ugni. Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is not a trebbiano, but Bombino Bianco. Trebbiano di Soave and Trebbiano di Lugana are not Trebbianos, but grapes related to Verdicchio. Trebbiano di Soave can make some very good wines, especially in Italy's Lombary and Veneto regions (Lugana DOC). Well, at least you know now, that Bombino bianco is not nouvelle Thanks for those quirky TN's Mel. |

Thanks for those quirky TN's Mel. An oxymoron I believe. The Quirky's have all been reduced to £5 online. |
