It's on a site www.justgreatwine.co.uk. Has anyone tried it? Was it good value?

Its a mystery to me.

In the blurb-
Quote:
...you will get to experiment and sample a wide range of wines each month.

Be careful what you sign up for, be sure you're not committing yourself to buying a case a month. They do seem like a legitimate company however.

Could you give us some info on what you like to drink and perhaps your favorite region/producer.

I dont like first posts just advertising a link.
Seems like a marketing message to me.

TBH I quite like most wines, across the whole wine spectrum, and I really enjoy trying something new/different.

Some way overpriced wines on this site. And some very old vintages for wines designed to be drunk young.

Barge pole.

That's the Lebanese wine isn't it? I tried some about four years ago. very good but expensive I thought. A French friend of mine really rated it.

In the blurb-

There are some very unusual wines in that web site. Odd balls, and they (the stockists) need to be careful. Whether the've picked up stuff that is begging ?

The editor needs to correct errors for wines over £20 a bottle; Burgundy folks know stuff when they are spending.

bio-dynamic St Aubin rouge 2004

An interesting wine, but on the very risky 2004, which we know is not holding well below 1er level, and this wine will be fragile, as it is a biodynamic cuvee. No oak either to keep the wine a little more preserved.

Very risky indeed. Further the editior should know that the wines from St Aubin are not classic Mercurey ! (as stated in the blurb) The St Aubin hamlet is in Cote de Beaune, on the western edge of sub region Chassagne on a dog leg north of Santenay, whilst Mercurey is 20 killometers as the crow flies S.SE and below Rully in the Cote de Chalonnaise.

Whether these editorial inacuracies have a bearing on the choice and quality of their wines is significant ? - dunno

I would like to try a biodynamic red burgundy on '09 and '05. They would be safer bets

I've just received my 'mystery case' which I ordered last Thursday (not bad delivery).

In it I got:

Crin Roja Vino Tierra de Castilla Macabeo Spain 2009
Domaine de Sedouprat Rosé VdP Gascogne 2006
Ramon Ramos Joven DO Toro 2008
Domine Verdejo DO Rueda Compania de Vinos 2009
Cuvee Jean - Paul VdP des Cotes de Gascogne 'Sec' 2009
Masia J Vino de Mesa Blanco 2009
Altos de Cristimil Albarino Rias Baixas DO 2006
Deza Cabernet Sauvignon Coastal Region South Africa 2007
Diamond Bay Shiraz Cabernet Northern Cape South Africa 2009
Vina Perguita Roble DO Navarra 2007
Shiraz Barrydale Cellar Tradouw 2005
South Africa Deza Shiraz Reserve 2002 Coastal Region South Africa

Haven't tried any yet and my first impression is that maybe you are right, one or two are a bit old, but all the reds should be okay. Also a bit Spain/South Africa oriented. But for £3.33/bottle it's a lot better selection than any 3 for £10 offer you occasionally see at the supermarket. I'll keep you posted.

An Albarino with six years in the bottle, interesting.....

Thanks for detailing your case. I think I would rather take a risk on the Tesco mystery case, of the two I've had so far (for the same money) they've proved extremely good value, recent vintages including fizz. BBQ fare.

I don't usually buy anything from Tesco on principle but I've just had a look at their mixed cases special offers. The only mixed cases I can see at around £30/case only have 6 bottles in them!

I'll try the Albarino first (probably at the weekend) and let you know what it tastes like.

I think you're viewing the sparkling wine option, here is the whites link, £3 per bottle, currently out of stock. http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/detai ... =256385612

Tried one a couple of years ago, was not at all impressed. Still. at £3 per, it was acceptable.
Not really a 'stock' item...need to keep looking then grab when they pop up.

I saw that 'offer'. If it's out of stock then it's not really available is it? Let's see if they come back on.
