....or rather food and a vague mention of drink Has anyone bother watching this rebirth of the the series? I was hoping for it to be a condensed version of Saturday Morning Kitchen but instead its pretty much a load of cack IMHO. I don't mind Michel Roux Jr's recipes or presenting but the northern "resident wine expert" bird is terrible Gives a minuscule insight into the drinks she suggests but doesn't even show the label of the wines she recommends let alone cost or where to buy them like Saturday Morning Kitchen. General title mentioned at best "Chilean Pinot noir" or "a red from Dao region" What's to stop joe public going and picking up a naff bottle based on that description and then never venturing there again? Sorry Michel but I won't bother watching any more of the series. Shame |

Agree completely. It all seems a bit banal. but the wine section is nonsense. May be something to do with advertising. |

I believe they want to move away from super market recs and focus on a wine region or grape to advise on as a suitable pairing. I am glad they dont say this Pinot is great and its only £6.95 from XXXXX |

I hear where you're coming from Richard but I would assume most of joe public watching this would purchase their wine from the usual outlets. We also know there can be a fairly large variation between wines made from the same grapes in a region, so while giving a general pointer in the right direction its better to at least name a producer/vintage or something I think Bacchus might be right about the advertising because they make a point of not showing the labels for any of the wines I'd sooner they picked a grape and then had 3 price banded versions of it like sub £10, £10-20 & £20+ Otherwise its left to Joe public to pick up a bottle and hope for the best (unless they are visiting wine merchants who can give helpful advice in store) |

Surely....we should all know our own tastebuds well enough by now not to concern ourselves with what is or isn't said on popular tv programmes. Stop watching Saturday Kitchen Ba.......the wine bit is like Ready Steady Cook. Everybody loves all the wines always. Never a single constructive criticism. Wither Hills MSB 2012 has won two gold medals in NZ. Both Tesco and the Co Op still have the 2011. The 2011 was sweet and lite. Don't buy it. |

A few weeks ago all three chefs and the guest voiced strong dislike of one of the wines. All a bit embarassing. I think it was a Luberon Blanc. Like Wagner, this prog has some wonderful moments and some very boring quarter-hours. I record it and watch with loads of 16x FF in about 15 mins. |

I've mildly enjoyed watching F&D, Kate Goodman is easy on the eye and offers the ubiquitous presentation traits now found on all lifestyle shows- endless waving of hands, OTT enthusiasm, breathless barrage of adjectives. She will go far. The one area I find slightly annoying, and its not unique to F&D, is the constant changing of camera direction movement.. Presenter talks to camera, camera moves left to right, close up of sausage, back to presenter, camera now moving right to left, and so on. Are all these shows now being filmed at sea? |
