Apologies my first post is reguarding another site - I assure you i'm in no way associated with said site. Just noticed that Mysupermarket Wine offer a price tracking and alert for wine. I just signed up for some of my faves so haven't seen if the alerts work yet. Useful for seeing if you should buy a wine full price or whether to wait and it'll be on spesh... I notice though that not all wines are listed on the site. [url]http://wine.mysupermarket.co.uk/ |

Thanks. I just chose a couple of wines at random from their Tesco listing and compared the cost with the Tesco site, prices are the same. So, what's my incentive to use MS and not Tesco? Or am I missing the point here? |

Nah, nah, it's not for your benefit...it's to make them some pennies. |

It should just be a reflection of the supermarket price rather than a discount (although they seem to offer a cashback deal on some). Better for looking up a bottle and checking what price it's been for the past 12 months etc.. |

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Sorry, but for me these sites are just spam that clutter up search engine results. Offering us, the consumer, the wonderful opportunity to earn the site owners a commission on our purchases in return for absolutely sod all. I don't mind the owner of this site earning a commission orfa me but then look at what we get in return. wine tasting notes from a MofW, a forum to discuss our green tinged obsessions with other wine lovers and a safe place to insult Welsh people. mysupermarket just seem to be asking us for money for nothing. No ta |

One of the books that I've read was called “Understanding the Label” that explained just that – the theory being that you could get an idea of what the wine would be like before you actually reached for the corkscrew...not. |

That's a dry red pomegranate rub, it helps alleviate chafing of the thighs after a busy day on the farm.... |

"Dry red" - I'm sure the only place i've seen that description is on box wine. Where can one buy Welsh wine outside of Wales? On MS Wine - It seems like you can just use it as a tracker of prices without having to buy anything on the site. Still don't know if the price alert sends a notification when the price changes but will keep you updated! |

No ta Welcome, I'm with Mr G. The price alerts are for energy prices, rail and bus travel, Motor fuel prices, some common forms of Insurance, denim and workwear. When it comes to wines and culinary art, what do these price alerts tell you ? OK - They may tell you that you can have the same stuff for less. Those bulk wines change a bit, you don't discover anything new, you don't lean much, "the price of everything, and the value of nothing" It is only from web sites like this, with properly qualified opinion, can you really make an informed choice. Well done Mel. That's my two cents, you get my opinions for free. - Oh no - help |

Ha ha. Some of old Oz cleanskins would say Dry Red on the label, but that's quite a while back. They were not on price alerts though , and never in a wine box. However, they may well have been in a polythene carboy at the back of an old corrugated iron shed in a remote part of Coonawarra ! Those days are long gone. Enjoy the forum, stick up a TN when you find something good. |

It may be my data analysis line of work leads me to embrace price tracking tools on any product. That and I'm a total miser. It just really, err, corks my wine, when I buy a + £10 bottle from a supermarket then see it a week later at £5 and this seems like a good way to alleviate that cognitive disonance. Smaller, quality, merchants don't do the same sort of opaque pricing and tend to price on demand/quality so I have no trouble paying a price and being happy - supermarkets tend to favour supply and excess so I think price is something to take note of if you can do it. Enjoying the site very much! Thanks for the welcomes! |

Sounds like Sean Thackrey's yard (but not quite so pricey). |

I have a simple way around this, I don’t buy wine unless it is on offer. And I’m not talking about those bogus half-price / three bottles of horse piss for a tenner 'deals', I mean real discount, the best being the -25% off a mixed case you can choose yourself. If you have plenty of bottles to choose from at home I see no point paying full price for wine in-store when you can bet your left testicle another sales promotion is just around the corner. |
