I have some new found respect for Asda. They have awful wines but at least Asda make no attempt to dress their plonk up as anything other than plonk. They have about 6 mass produced MSB's but they all come in cheap looking bottles and cost between £4 and £7. Tesco charge about a tenenr for the same garbage and bottle their tat up in sleek looking black bottles with tasting notes that speak of lush gooseberry and passion fruit.

NZ SB Tesco 2011 £8.99

Sleek black bottle with smart white screwcap. Tasting note on the label could have been copied from the back of a Saint Clait PB. Bottled in NZ but no producer name.

Wine tastes of sherbet and lemon grass.

Couldn't agree more, for example Decanter's red Rhone under £10 (Cellier des Dauphins Cuvée Traditionnelle 2010) is £5 as Asda.

Granted it's all plonk but at least it's all reasonably priced plonk.

Tesco only seem to redeem themselves with the 25% for 6 (Tim Adams 2007 Riesling for £5.89 can't be sniffed at), but otherwise Asda is now the supermarket of choice for me when plonk stocks are running low.
