A prestigious French wine trading company is believed to have defrauded its customers after topping up vintage Burgundy wines with vast quantities of lower quality products.

Following an 18-month investigation, police say that merchants Labouré-Roi took bottles of Nuits St George and topped them up with supermarket wines.

I have experienced something similar with a Bla**n Hautes-Cotes de Beaune, except they used badger piss.

The Labouré-Roi Gevrey Cham '05 I have, tastes like cheap Gevrey - It was cheap, but OK for the PN atributes of the region
The Labouré-Roi Volnay '05 was a dirt cheapy as well - Shez 1st, and then later, I took two bottles back to Majestic - no quibble refund.

This NSG though in the Mail, looks as if it had been sold as a serious Cru. I cant quite make out the domaine.

Yeah - not good, since by all accounts, LR were messing about with the village wines - One blogger at Majestic, if my memory serves me well, got some of this 'extra' ordinary volnay with 1er designated corks. Hmmnnn....It appears that those fraudsters even screwed-up when messing about at the plant ! He said the wine was good.

I believe that is a non-specific stock photo rather than the actual wine in question.
