Vavasour 90 http://www.bobswinereviews.com/vavasour ... eview.html The last two Ned's have been rich and hard work. I gave in and got some Goldwater 10. It's fuffing 'orrible.* G * Actually, it's very good. But i'm not going to admit it. |

Hi G, cheers for that. I still have some of these, and also the '10 which scored a healthy 91 **VM Wairau Reserve '09 And ** it's not going into fermenting hay either, praps a bit too mature for you though. Vav'10 still drinking well here. I have a soft spot for CB but the price this year is / was astronomical when I last looked - I think it hit £20 early on. VM Wairau Reserve 2011 on offer at the Mo. Time to score before the mob ? |

VM Wairau Reserve '11 Saw those in maj and was very tempted. Great price if Bob has it right. Might reserve some now. G, How much pith did you find in the Goldwater? Any blackcurrant? |

I thought the 09 VM Wairau Reserve was wonderful but it was too rich for you, Tribs. ( rich in flavour as opposed to heavy pith or oak ). The 2011 sounds like a dream of a wine and I would stock up now but Majestic still have the 2010 to shift so I cannot guarantee getting the 2011. Goldwater was a bit pithy when fresh but that has passed and for me it oozes blackcurrant. Apparantly this is a Southern Valleys Wairau style. Bob mentions nettles, boxwood and passion fruit in his notes for the 2011 Goldwater. No mention of blackcurrant., He has no idea. The 2011 Ned is getting pithier. I am a bit pithed orf with it. Maj also have the 2011 SC 21 PB so plenty of nice wines for the months ahead. Tidy ! |

You are right about the 09, but I thought it would develop so I bought a few more. I have not yet revisited. It was all 2011 VM WR when I was in my local maj to pick up my Goldwater Your Goldwater sounds just as it should be. My first bottle of this new batch was overly pithy and it did not shift over several days. It was subsiding at the end but it had been open a week. None of the blackcurrant was evident either which is at odds with the bottles we have been enjoying over the last 12 months. Bad bottle? Maybe, or these ones have been poorly stored, or perhaps my palate is just off at present. The staff were waxing lyrical about the Ned so I grabbed a couple of those too. |

Aha ! there IS life. Went in search of Perlata Rosé fizz (for a prezzy) and evenshualllllly found it...but at £12...Ba ! However, staring me in the face were 2 (only) Ned '11s. Omen thinks I so I snatched both. One for a prezzy, and one ......well, I deserve it. |

Of the VM Wairau Reserve 2009 - I was waxing what'sit about that VMWR'09 about 18 months ago - and you lot said it was a bit rich - Paul, the 09 is keeping good here, so if you have that wine in the cooler, you can relax, it is a wine that you can keep for fancy pre-dinner appero or to have with your supper starters, where you may want an SB wine with more middle palate power. Of the Golwater '10, I have yet to pick-up my reserved order, so I can't comment on how it compares to the two acquisitions last year - I will pick some VMWR'11 though, to take at the same time. ** I'm gonna risk not pruning that G'10 order, and top up with the VM. There could be bottle variance with the this Gold'10 because this is the third consignment offered by Maj on the same vintage. **Your Goldwater sounds just as it should be for the collection this week-end, that opinion is now encouraging. Yeah OK ....It is Tidy as Goose says, however given inflation on this time last year, it is more outlay again to maintain our MSB standards ! |

Indeed Sir, Whilst my memory for this wine is excellent I am again indebted to your detection of the style that's right up-my-street. Enjoy your week-end. You'll be please to know, that I've just returned with a black box with the red v designated - Wairau Valley 2011 serial number: VMRSAUVW116K Thanks G, I owe you another Cheers for now. "I really like VM Reserve Clifford Bay, and, I dont have the '10, AND it has some evolution and keeping potential. That is great for a tenner, further Mr G approves, Iknew he would, cos he directed me to it for the '07 vintage" ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Paul - I picked up the Goldwater Wairau '10 this morning as well. Mark says that if it's different - no probs, just let me know, and I'll sort it. There have been no other reports of deterioration or excess pith from other followers - so far, and he'd just received another, yet small stock top-up. I will have one on Sunday to check. The Goldwater does not have designated box serial numbers, other than an Lxxxx which is a loading number of some kind. I'm labouring this, in a hopeless & vain attempt to avoid storage deterioration / batch variance Ba's smiley fits this . |
