Camel Valley had an outing on national TV today. No mention on this site though. Their PN rosé bubbly has great reviews. 'The 2008 and 2009 vintages were both outright winners of the Sparkling Rosé International trophy in Verona (Bollicini Del Mondo); Camel Valley 2009 Pinot Noir Rosé was crowned Sparkling Rosé World Champion ahead of Bollinger Champagne rosé and also won the International Wine Challenge Trophy'. The beast of Bodmin and other folk lore Camelford and all the rest of it. You'd think the very fierce winds that cut across Bodmin would check the vines at budding time. It's a hard place to be in January. The geological mineral type and PH of the soils will be good for light and fragrant wines though. Seyval Blanc / Huxelrebe...... those would grow well here in Berkshire. Edward Hyams planted them in a bijou vineyard in Hambledon, I dunno, about four decades ago, when I first started growing fruit & vegetables and bought one of his books on traditional growing skills, he wrote about his work there. http://www.hambledonvineyard.co.uk/index.asp?pageID=10 I notice from the website, that money is no object at Hambledon these days. The've got a guy in from madame Leroy Cote d'Or domaine to advise. They have grubbed-up in 2005, and replanted with noble varieties. At least ole Edward Hyams got the choice of terroir and the local climate just right. |
