Two drink-free days a week needed, MPs' report says.

Do you?

I have always tried to have 2~3 days a week without alcohol and have mostly succeeded.

I fail miserably on this. Half decent wine every night here....BUT always after starting supper, so my sys is not receiving the wine on a bald stomach lining. I suppose, without guests it is 3.5 bottles a week. You'd think the b*stards would have taxed our wines out of existence, so producers come back with even cheaper stuff - Duh !

Tonight, I will go without.

Most MP's are Twitter induced clever dicks, selling verbal shite to the numbsculls, (or trying too) However, if the GP's agree, there will be some truth in it. Give me some Truth !

Cheers.

Anyway, I have a half bottle of 1842 OZZY barossa cab open, so that will last at least half a week before it turns

MP's who drive 4 wheel drive gas guzzling MPV's all over town, should be taxed at 75%.

Chaps,

I try to have one a week off the wine/beer.
I drink 3 bottles a week, usually half a bottle a night unless attending a tasting or offliner.

My problem is like tonight should be a non wine/beer night but it depends on work and if I need a drink I will open a bottle !!

GK, as long as we're talking about Medical practitioners who actually treat patients, and NOT elected members of the commons, there is some truth in what they say.
They've done nothing about binge drinking, or those drinking exessive amounts on the streets in our towns and cities ! It is they who are mopping up the spare money in our local authorities.

Indeed, they lost the war on drugs and know they will lose the war on alcohol if there ever was one. It is possible to ferment at home with the most basic of common ingredients, (you can ferment ethanol from grass clippings) how can they stop it? The move against alcohol will be long and progressive, a generational thing.

I understand there are certain enzymes in the liver that are needed for repair, this repair is impeded by the constant presence of alcohol, it makes sense to give your body a chance to fix things.

When it comes to partaking, I enjoy my vices infinitely more knowing that I’m fit and healthy.

I drink every night for about a month and then take a fortnight off.

This is probably bad over a long period.

I notice though that when I am not drinking I choose which wines I buy far more carefully.

This is probably good over a long period.

My problem is like tonight. Never a a more rational statement, Richard.

GK - It is a generational thing for me, and, You've hit that fair & square.

Yes, because of that, I must try a bit harder.

Nevertheless, at New year we all went to bed, on the jolly side of sober, nothing more. This is why it is a bit more risky for folks like me. My sys is rather acclimatised to half decent wines.

BRITAIN would like to know if being fast asleep counts as time off the drink.

Rose is telling us how much she loves the flavour, which she savours in her mind before opening the bottle - who has nor been there ? Every evening ! That's when dependency kicks in. I am dependent, so I must discipline myself.

The harmful level is 35 units a week or more. However I would modify that statement slightly to take into account your own body system volume, obesity, smoking, fitness, your age and other polutants that you are taking or subjected to in your environment.

I have cut down considerably over the last couple of years, I find I sleep better when I have a few nights off the wine. Its rare that I have more than one glass (250ml-ish) a night in the week, anything more see's me in bed by 9pm

I must be getting old.
