Goldwater 2010 is back at Majestic online for £6.99.

NZ Bob is now charging $29 for registration. You have to register to see tasting notes posted within the last 6 months. Although I think he's been an excellent source of information, I won't be paying.

What I like about him is that he uses different tasting notes to describe different styles of MSB's wheras so many British wine writers just use the same descriptors for the same grape no matter what the difference in style between individual wines.

McQuitty is the worst but there are others.

Anyone tried Saint Clair VC yet ?

My link to Bob is, so far, still free. Been waiting for an "offer" to try the SCVC.

The site is still free to view but all tasting notes will be 6 months old.

Any notes posted since Feb 2011 will have gone.

I wonder if Bob will do a pass for Quaffers' writers ? We have done a great service for good MSB producers, the bad ones, we have caned.

Sorry, MrD, I haven't had a Goldwater in many a month. When I buy from Maj now I just pop in and buy 6 PB.

Understood - I've been reducing consumption a little and moving up for satisfaction. When the weather is crap, half decent supping fills the gap.

Goldwater is the best of the disappointing 2010 vintage in my opinion. Followed very closely by PB 19. My worry would be that it has reached its peak, now. A bottle I had maybe about a month ago was perfect. I will open another soon to check.

I tried the Block 21 (Bell block) and although for me it has a definite capsicum flavour, I feel it makes the wine appear a little too sweet, rather than properly dry like the 19 and Goldwater, which are defined by a dash of grapefruit.

Tribs you have the cooler, So you have more time anyway - I think your Goldwater snip for less that £9 is about right. I will get some in (being not addicted to SC PB ) and at £6.99, it is pretty good to be saving a few bob, round here - a box of Goldwater could be gone in 2 to 3 weeks, my cellar is cool - we last had prolonged sun in May !

I shall run it along side Vav 10 again.

I have 2 G and 3 Vav left. The last G seemed a bit out of kilter, but it may be the potions talking.

Online for £6.99 - not here though. Has Goldwater gone up in 7 days or so ? Or does Goose need some specs ? It has been Autumn Price Hiked !

Goldwater '10

I've ordered some as there is none in the store. Furthermore, Autumn Price increase today - Vavasour is £9.99 .

No one here was aware of the Autumn Price hike that was applied to the better Majestic wines today.

Bugger.

Yeah Mr D, the offers at maj changed as of today
Still a few msb on offer but not our 2 fave budget offerings
Goose can rest easy that pioneer block is still on offer

To cheer you up, you might like to pop down to Waitrose who have SC Vicars Choice with 25% off until the middle of Oct
So at £7.25 we still may have a decent sub 8 quid offering

Shez,

The Goldwater style, You and I and Tribs know the wine well now. No disapointments - so I chased it.

I was very lucky, no Goldwater 2010 delivery has been seen in my Maj......However my timing, and the call to Mark paid dividends, very fortunate indeed. A corporate customer had returned 1 box as surplus from some sort of event, and I picked up six from the pile of stuff that he keeps in the Maj stock room. I won't say what a/c name had been written on the box.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

did you still get it at discount px ?
its now available online but for £8.99....

I'm thinking about holding off anymore MSB 2010 to see what the 2011 vintage will be like as I expect we should be seeing it in the not too distant future

Post subject:  Re: Bob & Goldwater

No - paid the full px.

But I was returning a very hot 14.5 alc Rhone that tasted as if **(Hardy's Crest type yeasts and additives had been employed) and was too sweet, and, ullage for a cheap 2005 LR Volnay that was flawed (not corked per se' , but an unpleasant sort of brett, where acidity is amplified, body and structure are thinned, and also a malt vinegar note to it) for refunds. So I didn't push it.
Maj refund the till price on the day, no questions asked, so you rarely get the old store price, unless the order had been written in the diary.

** This is a very worrying sign of the times "for my palate", but I suspect, many UK customers will be happier with these new Rhone styles
