An old question, but different vintages again - sorry for that.

G, as you know, I do favour Jackson Estate MSB, particularly after some bottle age. I've now finished the last JE07, just last week - so lovely a flavour, and so balanced.

Therefore, which of the JE vintages that are currently on offer, do you think is the most worthy for harmony and balance - the 2009 or the 2010 ?
I'm finding the MSB '10 vintage (sub £10) too acidic for the depth of fruit - even with the VAV '10, until a day or two have passed the mouth feel and finish is far from satisfying without a fish course or hard cheese. JE does settle-down nicely. I'm a bit fed-up with heavy acidity, but I like the true flavour and nose of a good MSB for gentle quaffing.

I'm thinking of 18 months - 2 to 3 years ahead with this. Keep in mind that I have VM reserve and SC '09 wines in stock.

Cheers for now.

Anybody else who knows both JE vintages is most welcome to comment ? - I don't know either of them - thanks

MrD,

The 2010 is odd. Two out of my four bottles were concentrated with the flavour that you'd expect of JE and two were thin and watery with only a faint dash of flavour.

I guess though that it's a wine in development and some have developed faster than others.

Bob's 90 rating makes sense but only if you get a good 'un.

The 09, last time I had one was showing no signs of developing nicely and was basically past it. It wasn't great to begin with.

The flavour was there though but it was all very disjointed.

Thanks G.

There is an offer till 31st July that reduces this JE MSB wine to £9 per bottle before introductory discount - I was chasing that......But based on your opinion, it hardly seems worth the hassle - further, the '09s have / or had appeared to me to be drinking better for my preferences - yet JE did not deliver a classic JE style MSB for the '09 vintage !

I bought a load of Vavasour 10, (Bob 91 points) I may as well try aging half of that for a year - and move on to........

Oddbins had a quantity of VM Clijford Bay - But I've not seen that in clearance anywhere ? Perhaps Slurp took it, it's not in Maj stores. That wine would'ave certainly filled this vacancy.

Morton Estates on the black label could be worth some investigation, or take the SC basic from Maj maybe the easiest option.

Thanks again ~G~ :) Enjoy your week-end
