A grape question helped me to my goal on the latest University Challenge. There still are 1 or 2 sensible progs on telly, but how long before the sheep ruin them? |

I really enjoyed the first episode of The Killing on C4 but gave up on watching it because of the relentless adverts. Will wait until the complete series is available on DVD down Blockbuster. If you get the chance (if BBC4 decide to rerun it) check out The Night Shift, brilliant, hilarious and incredibly dark. Staff training, in the event of a robbery. |

Those Adverts are intrusive now. Almost impossible to maintain the thread. No wonder kids suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder these days We bought a Humax digital recorder to avoid Rupert M's and Sky's stranglehold on digital TV rental payments for life ! We may also need our own digital tuner. We need software to seamlessly CUT OUT advertising during the recording process. At the moment, I'd rather pay an additional supplement to the Licence fee to get rid of the viewing polution on this sort of independent broadcasting. One would need a re-formatted decoder, you pay your extra, and then get a key to programme the nuisance out of the signal. |

Sir, You have had one longer than us - We bought the next one up, the PVR 9300 available last December, and at the 17.5% vat rate, with a bit more storage space - half a terrabite is it ? Anyway, a bit more recording capacity. BA - I was obviously being too subtle. Indeed the Humax is only able to find the terrestial digital channels. The extra decoder is required to search for those broardcasting signals that what's it and what's it, have locked up into their own system . You are the experienced one Ba, I've only recently been thinking about how to odds the media and broadcasting carve-up ! The Beeb are being squeezed. |

Just had a look...I have the 9300 too. Pleased with it but the remote is strangely laid out. |

Yep, the kit gives a clean, punchy sound helped by the wharfedale speakers which carry the base and mid well. Currently listening to Mumford & Sons Sigh No More. I got a surprise when I opened the Salnes on Friday night, a secondary ferment was well under way, it jumped out of the bottle with all the fizz and bounce of a sparkling wine. I poured two glasses then shook the remaining contents of the bottle and immediately got an inch of head on it It didnt taste bad at all, quite pleasant infact. |

AR Cambridge make damn good amps, and a rather nice melifluous sounding onboard DAC on their CD transport. I don't know the new, now known as, Cambridge Audio separates. But I am certain they are still excellent value, for real Hi Fi equipment, and audio circuit designers. I'm still an analogue audiophile...... As ya know. I'm looking for a Van den Hul stylus for an Ortofon MC 10 super body One day I shall look out for a pair of valve KT88's, class A mono blocks . They will be on ebay eventually...... when people want a hi fi system that you can carry around in a shopping bag ! But today, is all about paying the bills and grand children. My 1st one is 5 in September. GK - Enjoy your real Hi Fi - the difference is emotional and engaging, actually, no comparison, in another league |

Its no major step up really, I’ve always preferred real hi-fi, one of life’s little luxury’s I afford myself. My old Marantze amp had been popping for some time after many years of service, I loved it but its time was up. |
