Returning from Monmouth, I passed a tiny village convenience shop advertising ice cream made with Jersey milk and double cream. I doubled back (ha!) and approched the freezer. Got side-tracked by some cling-filmed un-priced ham which had a hand-written bit of card. That announced so-much a kilo and "this product is locally made, contains NO additives or preservatives and shoukd be consumed within 24 hrs. The ice cream was great, and the ham/lettuce sandwich supper even better with some Bosch CB. |

A quality shop there, MrB. I'm surprised you didn't get a nice bottle of Pouilly Fume to go with the ham. |

Some of us have got to do work round here, and my Bus pass has been deferred for 8 months - something to do with Cuts I've paid my dues ! You're allowed to sell home cured ham by the Lb in a corner shop, as well as cheese made from unpasturised / unhomogenized milk. Heresy indeed. Now let me think - if not salty, I'd have gone with a very light PN, that cutting De Bortoli Yarra one, perhaps. But you're not allowed that Mr B. .....for some reason. |

Ba, when next in Monmouth, you could drop by here and say hello to Tom Innes. Give him my regards. http://www.pinotnoir.co.uk/index.php?page=wine-list There is a 2005 Riesling that could interest you. Check with him. |

This chap likes his Pinot, nearly ordered a mixed case from him once, cant remember why it didnt happen, I think I spotted something else online at the time. Ba, if you ever find yourself further north check out the Castle Kitchen in Montgomery, great local food, cheese and ham, beers and wines, and the best carrot cake Ive ever tasted. |

Well now, just learned something else here. Montgomery has an SY postcode (Shrewsbury) and that code extend all the way to the W coast (Aberystwyth). Aberystwyth has a Shrewsbury postcode - weird. It's a birthday 5th. Goose next month as well. |

How long ago ?? Went out with a new mob today. Was supposed to be Worcester and the Malverns. Leader got lost coming out of Gloucester, next thing we were not far north of Chepstow. Bah ! They decided to go for lunch in Monmouth and pow-wow there. I remembered this thread and wandered down the high street to the wine shop...closed. Bah ! |
