Anyone use Outlook for their email? (not outlook express).

When an email arrives and sits in the inbox it appears in ‘bold’ until you click on it. When you either click on it to view in the side window or open it fully it is no longer ‘bold’. You can now right-click and choose ‘mark as unread’, this will return it to its ‘bold’ status.

Is there a setting that will allow me to keep the message in its ‘bold’ status until I open it fully? I would like it to stay ‘bold’ or ‘unread’ even if I click on it to simply view it in the side window but not fully open it.

With me?

With You.

The Preview pane is usefull, with no waiting for the HTML links to open, and be virus checked.

GK - I've been using Outlook 2003 for a long time now for the business. I like 2003 best because you get 98% of the facilities that you get with Outlook 2007, but you can still have the classic drop down menu. That way I can keep up, without having to learn all the new and rather silly icons.

Eventually I will have to go Windows 2007, and fortunately for buffers like me, I can buy a down load to maintain classic menu and dropdown.

Well classic - What do I mean by that - Shall we say Office 2003 dovetailing with Office 2000 pro, and running on XP sp3 pro.

To answer the Q.

Is there a setting that will allow me to keep the message in its ‘bold’ status until I open it fully? I would like it to stay ‘bold’ or ‘unread’ even if I click on it to simply view it in the side window but not fully open it.

Not a setting that I know of in Outlook '03. But GK, I find that it's no big deal clicking read and unread with the mouse right button.

Yep, All the best people .....

Now, it is also the 40th Anni for UK currency decimilisation. On the penultimate Monday, the eve of my 20th I was sweating over £SD conversion for an IBM bar machine operator. Those punch card ledgers had to bloody work !

Great spot Mr. D.
Some of the coinage, exact matches, had been around for some time. There was widespread hatred of the 50p piece replacing the 10 bob note. I still mourn the loss of that chunky-heavy half-crown.

Just remembered, the mob I was with went metric about the same time. Went home Fri night all Imperial, came in Mon morning all metric.
Everything, pressures, tensile strengths, speeds, densitys...the lot.
Some havoc for a while if I recall correctly.

GK, Dunc is correct with the right click + mark as unread option but there is another alternative too:

Go to Tools -> Options -> Other ->Reading pane
From there you can state how long you have to view a msg on the pane before it gets marked read.
Allows a max of 999 seconds so up to around 16.5 mins

Shezza, I knew about the 'mark unread' option, I noted it above.

However, you have fixed it with your other suggestion, I followed your instructions, theres no need to increase the time for reading, theres another option in that field- simply un-tick 'mark item as read when selection changes'.

You found it buddy, many thanks. That's been bugging me for weeks!
