My locallest local was a real old-fashioned scrumpy house. The counter was a board on tressles, the till a wooden box. While I was moving in I went in and asked for a pint of bitter. The landlord aid he might have a couple of bottles of light ale somewhere. These days it is a trendy pleasant dock-side pub with simple but decent food etc., but still is well known for it's cider. Today I noticed a menacing delivery being made...

Speaking of, anyone following the Edwardian Farm series on BBC2?

They were making cider last night, I wouldnt fancy getting my arm caught in that device they use for smashing the apples, no sir.

Enjoyed the Victorian series so have been watching this one as well.

Shame they had to buy in the apples though !!

Yep - saw it 1st time round - Is this a new series GK ? Missed a programme or two last time.

Of the Shepton Mallet traditional High Street series, also enjoying that, and it is now moving into the 1930's.

ha ha.... Last time in Shepton Mallet for a while, was crashing in the back of a Morris J2 Post Office hi-top van in the showground. Was at the 1969 /70 aka The Bath Festival - memory faded ! too much evil scumpy ! Bob Dylan there - Ba, did you make it to any of those Festivals ?

This is a new series the one you watched was based in Victorian times this one has moved into the Edwardian period in a different setting.

Last night was the second episode.

A similar m/c but much larger and made of steel is used for debarking trees. I toured a local paper-making factory where an operater HAD lost his arm in it.

Not one for festivals, but a few of us used to nip off down the A37 sometimes as Somerset pubs stayed open later than ours on Fri & Sat. By pure chance ran into an Acker Bilk 40th birthday concert in his home town of Pensford. 10/- to get in and free scrumpy all night.

They're now in Devon, Morwellham Quay.
