Chaps,

Just opened a mixed case and was surprised to find a 1985 Contino Rioja included.
Will ned to check my paperwork at home, but I think its to my advantage.

Google doesnt bring up much information though apart from a RARE Beast of a wine (BBR) and one site saying you can buy it for 110.00 euros ??

Mel/Dunc as you guys are richer in knowledge any further info on this producer ??
Lovely front label giving bottle/magnum production stats.

Regards
Richard

Cellar Tracker has a section on Contino Reserva, i've seen the label in Spain, that is all I'm affraid.

I'm not going to teach you to suck eggs, but for less experienced folks....

Alavesa, so look up charateristics for '85 Alavesa and interpolate over the next two decades, Lots of recent TN's for this producer, to see if you need to open now. Use the Google Spanish translate page tool. You may need to look deeper, while you are enjoying a glass or three.

Look up producers in Alavesa - may be links in the text.

Very Nice to have one - I hope it has held up on this 2nd tier.

Their Flagship wine is: Contino Viña del Olivo, Rioja, available from the Wine Society - this is a 20 year laying up model, yet easier from the off.

You did me a favour, I hadn't realised quite how bizzare global demand has become - An Alta or three, I'd bought during the depth of the crunch is now retailed at over 300% growth - beats bank interest
