This offer excludes fine wine and err.. Tesco seem to have upgraded most of their online exclusives to fine wine status especially for this promotion of err tat.

There was some tat in there and strong money too. Suspect vintages, at normal money - typical of a huge monopoly and controlling magnate.
However, we should deal with this matter logically:
I received the email, along with another 50,000 folks, from Tesco at 13:35 today.
Having very quickly scanned the Burgundy, big T are taking more than a few from sole importers and shippers Mentzenorff. You can look-up the duty paid, DPD 15+ case price, if you have the catalogue Tesco are not killing the traditional Merchants with these prices. So actually - that is a blessing in disguise, a cloud with a silver what'sit for the independent owner drivers.
I would expect that .....No one is that happy with the new online arrangements. May be some Caterrers for important dining events, who don't have a relationship with anyone in the business, just might use this facility to save time !
At the low budget end, If one is drinking the ocassional special bottle, and only want to hold stocks of 2 or 3 bottles from selected vintages and from selected regions, it does not work.
Tesco's stance here, prices out wine lovers with a careful or measured budget. Majestic wins hands down, because buyers may take a serious wine or two as part of the 6, every time they call in.
Moving into the market for bigger spenders - the arrangement still does not appeal.
Looking at the bottle prices, there is very little discount for 6, and buyers can't mix and match the vintages for particular wines. This is an arrangement for credit card users who have bigger numbers on their statements. Some of the prices were strong for the vintage, but not for the wine, when on song for a good vintage.
For anyone building a collection that has an in depth scope for styles and vintages and regions, unless buyers have large cellars and deep pockets, it's not going to appeal. There were quite a number of wines there, that I would not want to take half a case, or even a pair at that price, regardless of my card limit !
I might want to take a couple, or three though. A retrograde step I'm affraid, and for experienced users, hopeless, because you can't assess the potential of a wine without buying half a case.
The corporate marketing people have knobbled the wine buyers at Tesco ! They have looked at shelf space costs, unit volume and turnover....mind you, tiolet roll can't be a winner. May be they also suffer from a load of in store shrinkage and theft.
But in the final analysis - Wine lovers who just want an ocassional treat now and again, have been dumped.
