Impress your guest's with a fake label.

Quote:
In a 2008 study by the American Association of Wine Economists, 506 people blind-tasted wines costing from $US1.65 to $US150.

There was no evidence that the tasters enjoyed the pricier wines more. They broadly said they favoured the cheaper ones.

In another American study, 20 people were each asked to drink three wines, which they were told varied greatly in price. In fact it was all the same product. But the tasters said that they preferred the supposedly costly bottles.

"This means that if you're having a dinner party, you should get a wine with a label that looks expensive," Ms Krumme said. "Your guests will enjoy it more."

Im going back to bed.

Can you remember James and Oz doing the same test in France.

James own brew a 10 euro bottle and a 100 euro wine.
Everyone selected the 100 euro wine apart from one who said James was best. (tv back hander I reckon)
So have Amercians got no taste ?? I guess it depends on where you hold the event, outside the poundstore or Harolds will not give a good cross mix of people I guess ??

I offen try this on friends, serve a wine blind and gauge results.
The last one was the Potensac 1978 which most people called correct to region / grape but thought it was no older than 10/12 years.

I always enjoy trying blind as you are influenced by any hipe you have about a wine.

Just my 2p worth on this topic !!

Belle Epoque '99 gets a bollocking - without the flouncy label

I've tasted the 3 cheaper ones. I really like the Duval-Leroy vintage '04.
Transparent, very light and airy, tiny bit of toasted buscuit, a blanc de blancs with balance. Lovely actually, when served cool, and outside last Saturday on the patio and only £17.99 from Waitrose for a week ! Well, or until stock ran out - which was about 3 days here - 100's of tiny titch bubbles, visually very discreet. William - more bubbles appeared when the wine warmed a little - we had the glasses in the fridge before serving, and poured very carefully.

Being polite, William Beavington tasting with him is well ...Z&'#$%?, as far as throwing any further light on the analysis - It's Christmas
