2007 Taste the Difference Côtes du Rhône-Villages, Maison M.Chapoutier, France

Sainsbury’s, £5.99 down to £3.99 from March 24 until April 13

2007 was a good rhône vintage, especially in the south, and Chapoutier is one of the top traditional producers here, which explains why this terrific robust, chunky, inky, grenache-based, 14.5 per cent alcohol rhône, enhanced by one quarter syrah, is so good.

This is the 2005, tasted in 2007

Spicy, oaky, lovely smell. Very dry and oaky taste. Some fruit on the end and quite nicely farmyardy. A good example.

Thanks Mel,

Rich, Mel has qualified the '05 which would be more structured as well. I would surmise that this '05 might even be more interestingly evolved now for some folks with very good storage conditions.

The oaked '05 Crozes I have at £9.99, are just coming round nicely.

The '07 is a drink now till Christmas, although villages normally last longer. We should post that under it's own heading.

I will do that now.
