One for Duncan I reckon !!

I need a decent Argentina Bonarda and an Italian one.

I guess the Italian will have to be a blend though from what I have read.

Happy with any of the four Italian variants but ideally a high %.

Any ideas ?? budget is under £15.00 a bottle.

Found the Argentina one this morning on my into work.

Richard wants a reasonable Italian Bonarda for less than £15. I dont know of any. I know nothing of these.

Lets look at what a Bonarda is first: I have no drinking experience, and would have to look up a trusted opinion on the web.

Bonarda Piemontese, now officially listed simply as Bonarda but also known as Bonarda di Chieri and Bonarda del Monferrato[1] is a red Italian wine grape variety that is grown in the northwestern region of Piedmont. Prior to the phylloxera epidemic of the 19th century, Bonarda was speculated to have accounted for 30% of the plantings in Piedmont but today is only found in scattering plantings along the left bank of the Tanaro river near Govone

You have set quite a challenge. Decanter Mag's recent Italy 2010 issue mentions nothing of Bonada at all !

Scouring the net I've not really managed to find anything out of Italy for retail in the UK...
Even looking on Cellar tracker there's only 2 pages of Bonardas listed from Italy and none of these seem to be available anywhere in UK from my searches

Argies seem to be making more of a push with the grape than the Italians

Aldi do a cheapy Italian Bonarda/Shiraz blend from Tierra Del Sol.

yeah, saw that but wasn't sure whether Rich wanted 100% Bonarda.

It seems mission impossible for a good % blend of Bonarda from Italy.

Philip Goodband wrote to another post with this info,

Oz Clarke's Grapes and Wines explains that in Italy there are no less than 3 grapes under the name of Bonarda. Croatina is involved as the main name with Bonarda di Gattinara and Bonarda Pignola as sub varieties.

Bonarda Piemontese is supposed to be the "proper" Italian variety and different to the one found in Argentina. Not sure what the latter is but when I blended it some years ago with Tempranilla it produced a very drinkable bottle!

No luck on the Italian front ??

Had the Argentina last night, not bad at all very tight to start with but opened in time, nice fresh red berries and just a little touch of blackberry with a smooth finish very little tannin.
Nose was pretty too !!

Would I buy again ?? probably not.
Would I buy another Bonarda wine ?? yes.

Hi, it was a Las Moras 2007 will have the other half tonight to see how 24 hours has changed / developed the wine. (Coop £4.99)

Have had a few Las Moras Cabs in the past and have found them good every day drinkers.
