Snow melting here, rain, and very, very wet this morning.

The Sales are in full swing in the shops - it's all a bit sad, I don't see how the kids can enjoy a proper Christmas anymore Perhaps it's me who is confused.

In my childhood there was actually a holiday break.
If you did not fill up with petrol and food before noon on Xmas eve, you'd had it for 3 days. Some shops even shut until 1 or 2 Jan.

We took the escalator up from Central (ie street escalator, very long and outside) and did some market shopping then stopped and had Italian lunch as we were all chinese'd out. Prosecco - the first alcohol we had paid for - which is one of my least favourite sparkling wines,but I felt sparkling was called for on Xmas day.

My least good christmas wine experience for decades, but a great christmas. Very alternative and an enormous amount of shopping. Hope customs officials at HR are hungover and wearing sunglasses.

Back on Tues, boys, see you then.

I don't understand - Why did you have to have that Prosecco ? mega short of taste, gum numbing when happily forgotten in the rack.

You could have had sparkling chardonnay from New Zealand ? That's close by.

Anything sparkling please, but not that Prosthesis ! HK restaurents must be sad.

Oh yes, of course it is City Slickers wanting to cane you - it must be, no one in their right mind would stock Prosthesis, when there are over 50 other different and better sparklers in the world. It's very cheap to import, about 5 euro in Italy - massive corkage in HK then....OK,.... take the tourists for the mugs that they.........is the usual game !

There are goodies to be had in England, but no sun:

We have just finished a different cab cleanskin 2004 from Laithy, wonderful with rotisserie style chicken, and, we have cracked a 1983 vintage port, which although beautiful - is missing that peppery cut to the palate that we so crave.
Now, we have just opened a Nuits St. Georges 2003, an ordinary village wine, very ripe fruit, some spices, a little bit of earth, black fruits, and sweet down the line to the finish, so quite perfect for an afternoon sipper, hmmnnn, a nice and fruity apperatif, even ok with some Palma ham (a tad salty though)

Prosecco, why ?

The snow seems only to be on high ground and none has settled. I realise that Prosecco on Xmas day is very odd as I refuse to drink it on a normal day but the kids were chinese'd out and wanted Italian so we went to Pizza Express. Harry had roast duck and hoi sin sauce pizza, which was excellent. Actually the Prosecco was just right. We found drinking wine out was pointless. Nice wine was expensive and the rest undrinkable. Slight exag, but we had complimentary cocktail hour in the hotel and so by supper time we barely needed to eat, never mind drink.

Totally understood. Great Christmas idea. I've never thought of going that far at Crimble, and yes, in the circ's - inspirational.

A white Christmas here - Quite novel, the wine bucket was not required, I could chill enough for a banquet at the side of the patio
