I have finally sussed NZ Master of Wine Bob out.

He has two basic tasting notes for his MB sb's.

1- Lemon grass - This means full bodied, ripe and with a flavour that for me is grapefruit or something vaguely grapefruity.

Not my style so I shall now avoid all sb's that Bob describes as tasting of lemon grass.

2- Passion fruit - This to me means a flavour of blackcurrant or cat's pee as some put it..

Lovely.

I would also associate Passion fruit with Sth African SB, perhaps you prefer SA SB to NZ? Im beginning too.

I just mean that Bob's passion fruit is my blackcurrant. A good example of what I mean is the new vintage of the Seifried Nelson Estate at M&S. I have in the past enjoyed it and would have bought the 2009 when I saw it last week but I remembered Bob's tasting note and he listed lemon grass so I knew from that that this vintage would be richer and more full bodied with flavours that Shezza might describe as buttery.

So I avoided it. I have never actually detected lemon grass on any wine. However when Bob lists passion fruit amongst his notes I will go and seek out those wines even though I very rarely detect passion fruit either.

As for SA. The standard of wines once you get past the brands is very good although the only wine that I keep on buying is the Springfield.

Which reminds of Marlborough cos it tastes of blackcurrant.

I know that you like Spier. Which I find to be far too vegetal. Which means that your passion fruit could be my idea of asparagus.

Does any of this make sense.

Maybe I should drink JE and be quiet.
