Spotted and grabbed today..

Gallo Coastal Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon & Pinot Noir : £3.99 each or 3 for £10

http://www.gallofamily.co.uk/thewines/coastalvineyards/

Yes, I know its a Gallo wine but this range generally sells for around £10 a bottle and is a distinct step up from the usual dross, I’ve had the Cab from Tesco in the past, lovely sweet fruit, not too heavy on the oak. I’ve not tried the Pinot yet.

Vintages were '06 & '08, I’ve no idea how this retailer can sell the wine at this price.

The youngish female Gallo on Oz & James was trying to promote some "estate" wines of good quality. Can this be the result?

Home Bargains

They also had Montana pinot noir reserve rose for £2.99. But it was 05. Bound to be past it.

T.J.Morris & Co, I'll have you know.

My nearest is Bletchley Park.

This village store is one of UK's retail industry's best kept secrets. The alarm was called last week, after the Asst Manager was unable to find a bar code on the front a mysterious item found at the back of the stock room.

The police were called in, and after a thorough examination by the Stevenage auxillary corps, it later turned out to be a black plastic bucket made in the Ukraine in 1981

Will be visiting the Stroud one on Sat morning. Might see you there Ba.

If you're going, you'll need directions because it's inside the Merrywalks shopping thingy. You'd never find it from the street.

I'll visit and report back.

Sir,
I bought this one below * one year from big T, the bottle was in a bullet proof black cardboard tube with tin lid and tin base, some curly gold writng, and a promise. It was £6 pounds. over 50% off - aprox * Nov 2006

http://www.gallofamily.co.uk/thewines/c ... onnay.html

The packaging was serious - The wine regretably was anything but.
I knew it was going to be short of any class or distinction, But, never as hopeless as this.

May be some west coast Americans like this style ? We can't help them.

We are obliged to warn wine lovers, and unless we give these knock-downs a go - how does anyone know ?

Everyone is now warned about the Chard & the Pinot Noir

I expected more from the cool climate Pinot, what I got was a poor attempt at a dry, Burg clone. They should stick with the concentrated sweet fruit, a welcome alternative.

If you do a search on the Chardonnay you'll see that this is the most recommended of the range!?! Just the Cab to retry.

This CV Chardonnay is a confected concoction - No beauty at all. The regular stuff is very

I am reminded here of the ole - "Not ABC" again, a retort that has been used in / by various users of the vernacular around the country

Appendix: ABC (another bloody - yes, you got it)

Perhaps there's a use for a thread on 'Brands' that are worth buying?

Off the top of my head...

Berberana
Ravenswood
Penfolds

that's not a bad idea GK.

while on the discussion of Cali offferings. Has anyone give any Mondavi offerings a go?

Personally have only tried the Woodbridge Chard some time in the distant past and wasn't overly impressed as have never seen reason to return to it.
Don't think there was much about it disimilar to the E&J Coastal Chardonnay.
