Never liked the chap and this just adds fuel for me !!

Any fans, much prefer Nigel Slater or Nigella Lawson.

'However there are some releases that are consistent from year to year, and as popular, good value and accessible wines I want to include them because I know that my readers will appreciate them.

'In order to do so I include non-specific tasting notes based on the current and previous years vintage, focusing more on basic flavours and compatibility with food.'

I can understand him doing this to a degree, just as long as he stands up and takes it like a man should the wine turn out to be rubbish.

As for JO, I liked Jamie at Home and have the book, there's some good recipes in there. I havent bothered with his recent programme, the trip around the US.

Anyone who can drum and gurn at the same time as well as he can, must have talent.

Not surprised to see Jacob's Creek riesling and Nepenthe Adelaide Hills sb in there. They appear on lots of annual lists and are very poor examples of their type and quite expensive too although I guess the JC will often be discounted to around the £5 mark which makes it an average wine as opposed to a poor one. Poor/average but heavily marketed wines featuring year in year out on wine writer's lists does make you wonder if some are taking backhanders.

Funny mentioning the wine link from Decanter, just read that his pasta sauce has more salt in than sea water ??

Seems a strange story cant say its true though but was in a national paper today I found left in our reception area at work.

funnily enough, my first wine book bought for me was The Juice a few years back.

Is kinda outrageous that a wine can be recommended based on consistanncy rather than tasting a specific vintage.
....Altho we can say the likes of JE have proved to be consistant over the past few vintages and I would recommend their 09 without having tried it.
You can't publish a tasting note based on a previous vintage however as this with certainly differ !

As for JO.... I understannd the dislike that people have, as a ccharacter he can be a bit of a berk (look up original meaning or berk btw... :)) but have to say his cook books tend to be the most used publications in my kitchen

I'm slightly on Skinner's side for the New World wines. I know they can change, but they are generally fairly uniform and if his deadlines force him to do it, then leaving good wines out is a pity. There should, however, be a note against each wine, so that punters know.

I'd use a tasting note for the NW for another year, but wouldn't quote the vintage.

I've come to Jamie only recently and am thoroughly entertained by him but don't want him round to dinner.

Nigella is great, as a strong, sexy and rounded woman, but she might be a bit OTT for dinner. Slater, on the other hand could come for breakfast and he wouldn't seem like "a bloke from the telly". That doesn't mean that I'd likehim to arrive the night before, just that he seems comfy and normal so you wouldn't have to make a fuss.

Got an article to write and a couple of recommendations to pull together.
