McQ in my paper suggests that some 7% of anything she tastes is "tainted". This being independant of closure. My (limited) experience is virtually nil tainted these days.

I agree with you, not McQ, on this occasion. Wine is so vastly improved, even in the last 5 years.

That reminds me of a joke..

A new middle east crisis erupted last night as Dubai Television was refused permission to broadcast 'The Flintstones'.
A spokesman for the channel said....
'A claim was made that people in Dubai would not understand the humour, but we have heard that people in Abu Dhabi Do.'

For me, only two dodgy bottles this year that I recall. Certainly not 7%

Tainted ? I havent read the article - so without working out what she means by tainted ?

I had no bad corks this year from a few 10 year olds 1998 & 1999 Spain and France, 2002 & 2003 Claret corks were all good, 2002 & 2004 Cote d'Or were all good. 2 x 1998 Penfolds were good

A tesco 2001 Chablis 1er was going a bit fino with age, I was served this as a guest, it would have been good in 2006, Cork was a bit wet, so wine creep as well.

I'm racking my brains to find a tainted wine in memory - due to bottle or bottling faults.

I had a couple of cheapo dodgy screw top wines, that I did not buy - The wine making itself was faulty, IMHO

The Central Otago PN has a dodgy canderelle taint, that will fizzle out with time I hope.

All-in-All a good year...... I am anal, and so are my wine buddies about my / our buying choices, and the shops from whuich we buy, and therefore blame myself - Unless I find a dodgy cork with tell-tale signs of osmosis.

7% taint - where does that come from ? Nuff said - Miss Macquerky

Stumbled across this Report the other day - Corked - dependant on closure and the possibility of mould from the rafters !

There are some very illustrious names in here. The report is for a period 1st January 2005 to 31st December 2006. A few of the wines were nearly 20 years old.

No quibble from the Wine Society - but waht happens if you take back a Supermarket wine costing up to £20, which is found to be corked 8-10 years later ?

There must surely be legal precedence, but I reckon you could sell tickets for trying that one on...
Don't try it with Fine Fare, Safeway, Kwik Save, etc.
