http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/detai ... =259274877 I haven't tried this vintage so cannot comment. 2008 was generally a poor vintage with lots of either very sharp, acidic wines or overly ripe, sweeter, fuller bodied wines. That said, JE is usually one of the best in any vintage. Not in stores. BTW my local Extra store has done away with all it's fine wines after selling them off for between 25% and 66% off. I bought some Ladoucette PF 2004 for £9.99 and some Bandol rose for £6.66. It looks like their Finest range will now take pride of place. Good grief ! Anyone for Sainsbury ? |

Jackson Estate? Or, how about The Straits '07 for 21p more? http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/detai ... =262443950 |

Tesco say to drink the Straits within one year of purchase. So, if I buy a bottle of the 2007 today and someone else buys one in 6 months both wines will be good for 12 months ? That's 12 months for my bottle and err 18 months for the other bottle. Wine merchants should be forced to put 'drink within 1 year of vintage' so as not to be allowed to sell over the hill wine to unsuspecting consumers. Tis a rip off |

Guess I'll be the first to get in here.... This is what I'd class as my type of SB. served at cellar temp as stuck in fridge for just 5 mins before tasting so may see if differs when colder Nose has some tomato leaf, some tropical fruit tones and an almost buttery scent as if it has seen a small amt of oak Palete clean and crisp with fresh gooseberry moving to passion fruit and may be convincing myself that the butter on the nose is on the finish too. Would love to have had a bottle of 07 left to compare it with...but word on the street is they have all been hoovered up by a guy in Wales and another in Reading :shakefist: On offer both at Tesco (as per OP*:£7) and Maj £6.99. Think I shall be buying more of this. Tescos says this can be kept for up to 3 yrs *Original Post |

Thanks for the tasting note. It's unusual for JE to have any hint of oak flavour. Not sure if i'll like this vintage but will give it a go. For old times sake... |

Cheers Shezza, a great tasting note, which gives a damn good idea about the flavour and style. I'm very pleased you like the style, I'd be a tad concerned had you wanted all the '07 back to Vinipolis, and somewhat guilty as well, because your arrangements for the transfer were excellent, but left you with none in your own local to re-visit. Where the third box went is a mystery ? Thank you also for the cellar track link Maj verbally agree with about 3 years, one has to keep sampling to make sure Shezza - If I could get 3 back to you, I would, but I recon our friends at Maj might balk at the extra distribution costs - If you're passing here, email ahead. |

Thanks for the offer Duncan - very kind indeed. After a visit to Brands Hatch yesterday afternoon with a friend who'd aquired some guest passes we headed back via Asda in Swanley to pick up a copy of Colin McRae's Dirt 2 for the PS3 along with a few Hoegaardens Happened to notice the reduced to clear shelf at the end of the adjecent aisle. Scanned the shelves and hey whaddyaknow.... ;hidden at the bottom looking slightly worse for wear (red wine on the labels) 4 bottles of JE 2007 !! Quicker than you could say "sauvignon blanc" I was craddling these 4 bootles in my arms along with the 2 large bottles of hoegaarden. £7.18 per bottle later and shez isone happy fellow. Opened one last night with friends. First thing to say is this is noticable more golden than the 2008 bottle that was being finished but was everso delicious. Early stages out of the bottle this had honeyed characteristics - little evidence on the nose of std MSB scents. Guess by doing a good deed for Duncan I have been rewarded by the wine gods..... |

What a terrible fellow you are Shez, and if that was the BTCs I shall be watching my recording in a mo. Some yrs ago I took a vow NEVER to visit Asda again. My two accessible branches are training camps for actors in low-budget zombie movies. A swarming mass of ill-dressed, loud-mouthed humanity with 2 mile focused stares. Disco-loud music and P.A. announcements at a volume which probaby legally requires the provision of hearing protection for employees. So with the motor-racing earplugs, and runway quality ear defenders I went in search of bargains. Nix, nicis...not a one. Have renewed my oath. Plaaaaatooooooooh! |

Sorry to get your hopes up mate. Usual Asda I would tend to use doesn't tend to have much in the reduced to clear section so this was a complete fluke. Only tend to go for cheap nappies tbf |
