Well, I had a lovely day yesterday combining work and pleasure. Because it's half term I had to rope the kids in. Strangely, they love going to IKEA, especially if I can factor in a meal - yes, meatballs, obviously. I had something to take back, and actually it only took a very short time.

After we'd wiped lingonsylt from various parts of them, we headed down to the Harbourside in Bristol to taste some wine with Wines of South Africa.

They're touring the country in a very jazzy, open-topped bright green bus and the kids were happy to have an ice cream while I got to work on the wines. To be honest, I think the wines I tasted weren't on the main list for the public and certainly the Flagstone Longitude, which I really enjoyed, isn't on the counter. Prices of wines shown ranged from £4.49 to £13.998 (plus a couple of boxes, which were more). Apparently South African wines are the fastest growing sector in the UK off-trade (shops, to you and me). There are plenty of wines to try on the bus, so if you do want to know more about South Africa and its diversity, it's worth visiting the bus.

It'll be in Brighton on Friday 29th and London (outside City Hall) next Tuesday (2nd June).

lingonsylt ? Only availalble from IKEA - Is this Teak Oil ? or suntan lotion ? Your kids are younger teens now, so wiping lingonsylt off them is odd !

Just shows I know naff all about Swedish cranberry relish - JAM to folks who have raspberries at home. Sounds as if it could be great with cold poultry, or cold light meats ?

It's the red jam they serve with meatballs and as we regularly spend our summer holidays in Norway we're quite keen on red jam with meat, particularly roast chicken. In the past we have brought 8 x 1kg plastic pots of the Norwegian equivalent home on a plane. Tyttebaer Syltetoy (spelling might be wrong as Norwegian dic upstairs). A memorable holiday incident was when my young son, who couldn't walk at the time, found our stash upstairs and managed to open one, on the woven landing carpet and smear it everywhere. My cousin, who had no children at the time, had been left nominally in charge while we played tennis, and you can imagine how horrified he was at the level of carnage, and the resemblance to blood, during his short time in charge. He has recovered and now has 2 of his own children.

The flagstone Wines - dragon tree, longitude and all of the whites with designer style labels are now at Majestic.

I saw a distress clearance parcel that they picked up very recently. They halved the price then added back a selling margin.

If you want these wines, nip down to Majestic. They are £3.49 upwards, and half that of Tescos. I think the Dragon tree red is £9.49 in Tesco online per bottle, and the same wine is £3.99 in Majestic, but please don't quote me exactly, on this. Check it all out if yopu like SA Cape wines.

I was looking at a Marsanay bargain and some Ladoix 1er....But also...a 2001 Claire Valley parcel at the time.

Space can be a problem as another case of bargain basement Oz is due soon.
