I picked up a bottle of the Cromwell. Made by PLB Wines of Tesco "Old Renwick Road" fame. This is also bottled in the UK.

Only Winery of note I can find in Cromwell is Mount Difficulty. Hmmm.

Tribs, have you opened this yet?

My local Co-Op has de-listed a load of wines, including this one, down to £4. I grabbed one to try, may go back for more.

I was tempted by some of the other reduced wines too, the Xplorador Carmanere (made by CYT, pretty good) was reduced to £3, as was many of the wines they are shifting. Kid in a sweet shop. Need to do a bit of research before I go back in.

£3 for this.

Clear the shelf.

Its new world in style, a bit sweet for food, but very nice on its own. Usual strawberry flavours with a bit of toasty vanilla oak. Nicely balanced. Not really any potential for ageing, but a steal at £4.

Cheers.

I should have done a 'goose' and opened it for a sniff and glug in the store.

That's an outrageous accusation.

Sniff a wine in store I might but I never glug until at least the car park.

GK,

Was this a convenience store? No de-listed wines here.

It seems to be one continuous clear-out in GKland. I think that...

Outrageous accusation? Serious compliment, in fact. Good plan.

No, quite a large store. Ive had loads of bargains from this place over the years, it doesnt surprise me that this is unique to this store. Went back in last night and grabbed a mixed case including two bottles of Jacobs Creek Blanc de Blanc reduced to £4.

If your work brings you down this way I can give you the store address, theres still plenty left including this for £5.

I think I will start taking pics on my mobile, to shore up my credibility

There appears to be a difference between MIDLAND Co-op and THE Co-op. Their (Midland) store finder tells me that my nearest store is 60 miles away.

We used to have a Co-op supermarket not too far away. It became a Tesco a couple of years ago. I guess the bigger stores are able to hold more lines as well as having more stock to reduce when they change over. Handy, if you have one local.

There are loads around here. 2 large Leos, 1 now Lidl. Several original (blue) Co-ops, and several that were Somerfield. Of those, some were Kwik Save, most were Gateway, of which some were Fine Fare. Ye Gods.

Just found this write up !!

As a rule, I recommend wines under £10 a bottle but this classy little number is produced by a woman winemaker and she is obviously very talented indeed. It is made from a blend of grapes including Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, all classic varieties for this part of southern France. Although you are looking at 14% alcohol, the wine is smooth and not at all ‘jammy’, but full of ripeness and power.

This wine has an intense colour, vibrant and expressive flavours and a soft, rich and long palate. On the nose it offers up spices and ripe fruits, with black cherries, blackberries and black pepper. The palate is nicely concentrated with a good balance of acidity and spice and just a touch of liquorice, and finishes with soft tannins and a satisfying length. Perfect with roasted meats, rich dishes and stews, especially braised lamb. It would also pair happily with couscous, tagine or chile con carne.

Nathalie Estribeau Côtes du Rhône Reserve 2007, £11.99 at Co-Op stores, but may still be available on offer at £5.99.

Will open one tonight and if any good will pop in tomorrow and clear the stock.
Anyone had this one ??

Quite a haul there MM, glad to see these offers are in other stores too.

An '04 Concordia for £4? Better than the hot '03, if this is still drinking nicely I would whip back and get the lot.

GK,

Might open the Concordia instead then as they still had a few left this morning.

I am calling into another store on my way home to check what goodies they have.
