The Reuilly gets a 90. Some of the cheaper white Burgundies look good too. Nothing tried as yet.

Got to be dun. Improving reviews year on year. My last Reuilly was 'orrid.

Page 27 and you will see Sauternes, Chateau Mauras 2012. £8.99, 50cl - so two thirds of a normal bottle size.

I have not tried the '12 vintage, but I can say the 2010 was delicious. The Style here is more of a Barsac, and a less full, less complex & lighter version of Ch. Climens, and a very good style for an apperatif, as well as after dinner pudding. As Richard Bamfield says of the '12, the 2010 vintage was most refreshing, honeyed and with enough acidity to keep it beautifully transparent. As you can see from my opinion, I'm not a massive fan of the dark and very cloying styles, this wine could be very good, I've yet to try it though.

The Marcilly Hautes Cotes Beaune blanc was good stuff on the 2012 vintage, I was sorry when it was all sold out.
At the time, last year nearer Christmas, there was not another Côte d'Or white burg in any other supermarket or wine merchant that could get near to the QPR of this one. If you are trying / testing at the week-end, please try the Marcilly and report back. That's pretty quick after release for a white Beaune on the '14! So, a bit early to judge . . . .

New wine range for Christmas is being released from Thursday.
1999 Lanessan, Les fiefs de Lagrange 2011 (Ch Lagrange 2nd wine), a 2012 Bolgheri are amongst the Reds I remember in the range
Nothing really leapt out from the whites although they had a Riesling that scored 92

More interesting to me are the fortified wines to be released with Warres Optimo 20y tawny & a 1997 colheita for £20 & £15 sparking particular interest for me

I've bought the 40Y tawny and a bottle of the Volnay
The Lot 09 Toscana Super Tuscan and the Valpolicella Ripasso are also tempting me
Have heard a good number of reviews for the Cremant de Jura too

Had the Volnay on Saturday, more polished Pinot than my very few I have had prior.
I thought it was pretty decent, but don`t know a good PN from an average one though.

Not particularly blown away with this. Flavour profiles were correct but the depth and length were disappointing

CT reviews seem pretty good although it's not one to keep for too long by the sounds of things
May make for good drinking at the dinner table this Christmas and should be £15 better spent than the Aldi Volnay

The Alsace Riesling seems to have been popular with shoppers and has been snapped up in the 2 stores I've recently visited

I've bought the Saint Clair 1997 Colheita and the Warres Otima 20y tawny to try over December and a half bottle of the Vidal Icewine

Not a fan and 1999 will be way past its window IMO for Lanessan.
Never had a bottle I enjoyed, still have a single 96 which doesn`t appeal to me one bit.

Yep, that is the problem with '07 Volnay from a clearance negociant, such as Edouard Delauney. Vintage 2007 1er Volnay would have more presence on the palate and depth and minerality, but generally, '07 would never be firm, yet wonderfully silky, like say; WW11 parachute silk . . . . . A very pretty and traditional Label though

I have a few 1er's in stock, on vintage 2005, and this wine was still in slumber last year! I think 2009 1er from a good producer may deliver the goods now, but the big names are heavy money. Volnay is very fashionable with those with deep pockets - silky but massively structured and long length. I have drunk Madame Lalou Bize-Leroy Volnay at 20 years in - spoilt absolutely rotten on a liquidation deal.


Pretty decent is OK then, but hardly what Shez and I look for . . . . . .I suppose the price appears to be a bargain, as 1er quality is £30 - £35 + these days.
Ask yourself whether you'd go back for more at £9.99 a bottle - maybe, maybe not. As you say Richard, because you don't know what you're looking for - and the wine did nothing to impress you - therefore . . . . as a Volnay, it is a duffer. Shez found something - not much though

I've edited as I find I'm a bit out of date with Volnay 1er prices for 2005, 2009, 2010. Please add, or should I say - You have to add, if you're buying: £10 - £15 plus VAT to my general banter above.

I remember Lanessan as quite hard work in many vintages, and really only worth seeking out in a ripe year.
I remember that I have enjoyed 2003, a more recent 2001 was satisfactory, but nothing memorable. Previous years in the early 90's were quite hard going and sometimes an astringent finish (too oaky for the fruit) . This chateau produces a rather traditional green claret, that can come good, but is never going to wrap itself around your palate with pleasure. Majestic used to stock these on many vintages, when at least 7 or 8 years in. Prices rarely more that £12.

This is what Jeff Leve at winecellarinsider says about the 2000 vintage, a vintage that was a classic, and lovely at the properties known for fruitier and fuller wines in Haut Medoc. Jeff is a very trustworthy source of proper TN's, no bull poopie, not influenced by fashion, price and prestige.
2000 Château Lanessan:
Tobacco, old wood, cassis, green herbs, medium bodied with a rustic hard texture that ends with tart cherry and cranberry. I suspect this will age and continue to evolve in the same direction.

Old wood, Hard texture, tart cherry and cranberry - Probably satisfactory for me, although tiring on my own, but not for many of my friends!
