Mel,

Popped into my local Sainsbury last week for double cream and had a look at their wine selection. It was awful actually shocking is a better discription of their range.

My other close by supermarket is TEE which occasionally has one or two interesting lines in stock and have managed to get a few bargains recently as they dump the mid range lines for the bulk wines.

I find the COOP are ok for mid week reds but nothing that jumps off the shelf though when I popped in last week, had an ok CdP 07 from Carlton branch for £5.99.

Might pop in whilst the sale is on incase they have mucked about with whats on the shelves or hiden in the back ready for this 25% offer.

Tricks

Sorry to hear about that Richard.

Please do me a favour :) , and report back any Rhone / Bordeaux reds that look interesting - we have quite similar taste it would seam.

Is this a pre-Christmas Move ? or a challenge to Tesco' s 50% of What bonanza.

I have to say that I prefer 25% off what you choose - versus - 50% off the mass market stuff - the - What you're told !

Yes, the week-end to line-up the Stars at Sainsbury's then.

Of course, how could we forget Mr Goose's * South of the South or whatever, expletive.

I will pencil a list - I need a few good value / budget quaffers myself.

Someone gave me a glass of what I thought was a very nice red. I guessed it was about the £10 mark and had no idea as to what it might be.

I did guess by the colour that it probably wasn't sb.

Turned out to be Sainsbury's claret, £3.99.

MrD will never speak to me after this

There are a whole list of Sains recent notes on the TN section.

Yes, but they were written by a woman. We don't read those.

I'd duck and weave as well GG. Sains seem to have gone downhill somewhat (or maybe it's me going uphill). With the across-the-board 25% though there must be something worthwhile.

Hmmnn, I should let him slumber. Can't kick a man while he's down.

Well may be, Mel has the first call anyway, could burst the little blighter with a stiletto. May be not. We're nice here.

His taste buds for claret could be seriously faulty

GK - You tried that £3.99 Sainsbury's claret ?

How did you find a sleeping gooseberry? Or is it a Sauvignon Blanc grape? Or Semillon?

Night boys. Early morning.

Sainsbury - 2x Perrierre Sancerre 2x Waipara Hills sb 2x Leasingham Magnus riesling ( if it's the 08 )

Sorted !

I might try one of the Chablis.

As for the claret it's a proper merlot cabernet blend and tastes fine to me. The Co Op's is a merlot/cabernet/cabernet franc blend and tastes watery and pointless.

I'm after Mel's ttd Albarino and dry oloroso (if it's in the offer). Probably the chablisienne and guess I just have to get the triangular Riesling. Oh and Kiwi, and I might even try GG's fabulous claret.
Luuuuv the zzz gooseberry.[/i]

You claret lovers will probably hate it. It just seemed to have way too much flavour for £3.99.

I'll go back to sleep now....try not to tread on me.

Casilero del Diablo Carmenere worth buying though I'll still feel ill at not having got hold of any when it was included in a 3 for £10 offer earlier in the month.
