take it there's not much difference between the 2009 & 2010 tingleup ?
I purposely went for the 2009 coz of the extra bottle age...

The 09 this time last year was medium bodied, sweet and Germanic. Mel also noted that the flavour was more Germany than Oz. I wasn't that concerned though as that's what the wine is always like in it's youth.

The 2010 though is light, sweet and very Australian in flavour with lime and petrol already showing.

I hope this bodes well for the 2010 but it is very light. That worries me a bit.

G - The panel were off that day.

Filter last year's awards, and for the '09 vintage and all your favourite MSB's, Bird Block 19, Oh Block 6, SC Wairau Valley and VM Clifford Bay were all awarded Golds.

Read this apparent nonsense for a silver:

Esk Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Marlborough, New Zealand

(White)

Soapy, confected nose, light pungency with some green gooseberry tones and mineral length.

UK price: £8.99 LAI

Is that TN summary your idea of a silver on the '09 vintage ?

I've drunk this wine which was generally £8.99 unless in a mixed case, or on offer, and that TN in blue italic above, is pretty wide of the mark. The wine needed time to open fully to exhibit its flavours which were rather more than gooseberry tones. A pungency not exceptional by many standards and therefore not worth summarizing per se'. It was a satisfying upper middle rank though. A confected nose is not what I'm looking for ? Further, I do not remember it being such.

Soapy & Confected nose with pungency - Hmnnn ? An odd combination or description for an MSB, and not a summary that I would have written.

No, I write that again.

That Decanter TN for the Esk Valley MSB is a crumb of meaningless tosh.

Bring all these judges back on another day, make them blind taste and rate all the wines again and I guarantee you will have a completely different set of results.
