However - As a Volnay luver - here is some nectar.
One of my favourites:
Volnay 1er fruit from terroir at
Santenots is silky and very fragrant. Joseph Faiveley captures this quality, and charges accordingly.
I bought Les Mitans 1er on the '05 last month, from a tiny producer for laying down, some of the fruit in came from the tiny L’Ormeau, which is now subsumed into Mitans. The terroir at L'Ormeau produces firmer and darker and more structured volnay for longer living.

Joseph Faive is one of the important guys.
Interestingly Robert Parker has been "put in Coventry" in the Cote d'Or by many other burgundian lovers, the trusted reviews of Clive Coates and Alan Meadows being considered more reliable. There were two notable faux pas's - Firstly, for writing tasting notes that were considered in error for the '93 vintage, (hail and fruit rot dogged the wines - but he allegedly claimed they were good) and secondly when he wrote a muck on Joseph Faiveley saying that the wines exported to the USA were not of the same quality as those he served at the domaine. When challenged by Faiveley in court, RP backed down, and paid them damages in an out of court settlement.
