It was the 07 and it is oak heavy. Was too much for the wife but I like oak. Will be better with a bit of time for sure

I know this isn't the official montes Alpha cab thread but seems most recent discussion has gone on here

Opened a bottle yesterday and in full agreement with Tribs

I really enjoyed this although think at the moment it has to be consumed with food (excellent with roast lamb yesterday, delicious when snacking on onion bharjis later in the evening).
Grippy tannins even having left the bottle opened for a couple of hours(didn't decant as didn't expect to consume it all in one day)

From the top of my head: Oak is very evident and pehaps overpowers the fruit slighty but it's not in the usual NW Vanilla ladened way, but more light smoke & cedar which is quite tasty
Sadly I found the finish was a little short but that was more reason to have another slurp :)

Think this will mellow & improve in a couple of years but will update any developments on day 2 (after 24 hrs vacuvin'd) tonight

Blackcurrant more expressive on the nose today
The cassis is also more evident initially on the palette. Cedar and light dose of vanilla follow through

Shame there isn't more length on the finish because I think this is a very nice Cab.

Think the other 3 bottles will stay tucked away for a couple of years now

for the discounted price of £7.50 a bottle this is a steal !

Length Shez - You want it all for a mere £7.50

Thats good, very good. No astringency there Shez ? It will def come round for this 2007 vintage in time.

What is the best price for this at the mo ?

usually retails at around 11 quid (so at that price its fair to expect a bit of length ;))

20% off at Maj right now so 8.99 a bottle.

I picked up the last 4 at Tesco which had it going at 2 for £15 at the timme but no lonnger on offer

Like most wines though, this is cyclical so no doubt will be on offer in another 3 months

and yes, in terms of astringency this is still mouth puckering on day but with food (chicken tikka masala last night) was fine

Its strange you found little on the finish Shezza. I may have to revisit this sooner than I expected.
