Chardonnay & pinot noir blend from Argentina produced using methode traditionnelle Deep golden straw colour with a fine stream of bubbles Nice rich brioche and baked apple flavours This is very good and great value for money. Very much my preferred style of fizz and more to my liking than a lot a champagne I've tried at a similar and higher price point Available at Tesco's and majestic |

Also, in Morrisons this morning, noticed they were selling their signature vintage champs (2007) for £16.99, down from £23.99 http://www.iwsc.net/search2014/info/1306 |

There's certainly some competition going on for Champagne that drinks quite well in this price range. I've tried the Lidl bargain that Mel has recommended in her article, and the flavour is good, the Comte de Senneval Champagne Brut NV (£9.99 - £11.99) Quite a deep, slightly pinkish colour. Creamy, bready aroma. Very bready .... She said. Yep. Very much in the style of a full and 22 carat golden (pinkish) shampoo. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. I also recommend this, good bargain and the flavour is home made ripe Bramley apple with a yeasty bready crumble and a spoon of single cream - without all that extra sugar that some Cooks seem to use for folks with a serious sweet tooth - Greg Wallace springs to mind. Only one very minor flaw - the mousse is large and poppy, and then subsides promptly, but Hey...... the flavour is nice and for the price, a lasting finish, a winner, and not too dry. I suspect scouts will report when it is down to £9.99 in some parts of the country, but may be not in the Thames valley - we shall see. |
