This wine has totally ruined my enjoyment of other wines. It was perfect. Dry, light bodied with lush sweet fruit. Blackcurrant and boxwood flavours. It was fit for the gods. It's no longer sold here and all other sb's fall hopelessly short. So far short I really could stick to beer.

Goose, which vintage were you drinking, or had you just enjoyed, when those thoughts sprang to mind ?

I know that Bob Campbell said in similar terms, that Oh ! Block 6 for 2007 (94 points) was the epitome of exactly what Marlborough SB is, to lovers of the style. Currently, we cannot see his assessment for the 2012 vintage, and he did not do 2011 or 2010 for some reason !

Hi, MrD

2009. SC didn't make the wine in 2010. I'm guessing that's why Majestic changed to the Block 19 2010. Which was lovely in itself but just a notch down on the 06. They now have the Block 21 2012 which was so ordinary in 2011 that I haven't bothered with the new vintage.

A shit day today. I am my mother's main carer as she slowly passes with advanced lymphoma. She has a chronic chest infection and today she fell and hit her head on the bath. The paramedic who answered the 999 was about as unfriendly as you can be without actually saying anything offensive.

She's back at home but ..

Hotmail lost my email account today too. So if anyone stumbles across the Oh Block 2012 please flag it up here.

Shitty indeed Mr. G., sorry about mum.
The SC Oh seems to have been bought up, unless you want to go to Australia where they appear to have loads.

I'll adopt a koala bear. Instead of sending me a photo every 6 months it can send some Oh Block. Interestingly, Oz Clarke who has always rated JE as one of the very best sb's in the world has written that's it's been very poor since ( and inc ) 2008. He describes the style now as being ' sweaty '. Not sure what that means. More body and less fruit is what I get.

The fuller type of MSB goes well with koala steaks baked in eucalypt leaves.

I was sorry to hear the news about your Mum. My dear Mum and Dad have been gone for several years now. Heart and lung degeneration take over when your body packs-in. Your Mum's balance in the bath is symptomatic with that deterioration. You probably knew that we paid carers for two years to nearly live-in at their home in the end, since they wanted to pass away at home. Had they not saved money throughout all of their lives - the end game would have been very different. As it was, we had a massive row with Poole hospital which caused my dear Mum to become totally incontinent after a fall. They did respond and lent us a motorised lifting hospital bed and ancilliary equipment which we installed in two Bedrooms in their home. The NHS knew they were onto a massive cost saving that way. It was damn hard work getting them to agree - unbelievable hassle. I spent a whole week organising it, and six weeks for the equipment to be delivered - crazy burocratic departmental stuff, amd another 13 weeks to get incontinence pads !

Back to wine.
The Oh! block 6 vintage '09 is a very lovely wine. I still have two bottles tucked up in my wine cooler :D . If it helps Mr G, the Astrolabe kekerengu coast 2009 was very similar, both in flavour profile, etherial quality and finish / length, maybe a tad less tangerine on the AKC, whether the vintage '12 is up to that level, I just don't know. What I do know is - you will enjoy AKC for a little bit of luxury - look-out for Maj or Waitrose offers on this wine

Good luck with your Mum. Give them a dose of their own medicine if they don't help you properly with her care management. They are paid to do it. Forming a good relationship with her family doctor, and the district Nurse and nursing team can work wonders. Butter them up, with an occasional bottle can be a way in.

Thanks for the replies. A better week. Stressful but on a much lower scale. Marston's Double Drop and Hopping Hare tonight. Ospreys on the box. Staying in is the new going out.
