Well respected W. Oz producer and reduced from a tenner. For me, just a bit too herby, grassy, racey. Needs food, something a little greasy perhaps. Nice enough at the offer price but may be a little 'in-your-face' for some. I can handle it however and quite enjoyed it. Won't be a regular though. |

I've bought a fair few of these sb/semillon blends. None ever came close to the Peter Lehmann single varietal semilon. Which seems to have disappeared. |

Western Australia, the Great Southern region produce respectable Bordeaux blends, they say, and the Plantagenet winery is situated there. I didn't know any more than the Plantagenet name / winery associated with Pinot Noir, and only fairly recently , so I have put up a bit of geographical info to attach to this post, which may be of interest: Great Southern is a vast wine region, stretching for 150km in from the coast at the southern tip of Western Australia. The landscape is scattered with regal stands of jarrah, karri and marri trees against the magnificent granite peaks of the Porongurup range. Great Southern incorporates five official sub-regions: Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup. As a whole, they produce a wide variety of wine styles. The region has earned an excellent reputation for premium riesling, chardonnay, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon. Delicate riesling with great longevity from Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup is very highly regarded. Chardonnay is successful throughout, particularly in Albany and Denmark. Spicy shiraz, classic cabernet sauvignon and merlot are recognised for their fruit intensity and structure. Good examples of pinot noir from cooler sites and sauvignon blanc are also found. Plantagenet Wines is located in the Porongurup sub region. Omrah appears to be their leading label for reds, whilst SB/Sem goes under the Hazard Hill label. These are associates / members prices, the HH sb/sem is $11.05 AUD, whilst the Plantagenet pinot noir is $38.25 AUD. That converts to £6.49 and £22.49 respectively. Duty in Oz is high. Good TN, Mr Ba, i'm tempted to try with fish. |
