This is the burnt-gold label one. I don't know about Bob's 93, might age into that sort of loftiness, but not for me at the mo.
Hates the cold, but when warmer is an excellent drop. Younger, sharper, crisper and more acidic that the Wairau but still 'Marlborough'. Am putting the second away for Xmas.

Picked this up when reduced from £11.99 to £8.49 in Co-op

Definitely one of the best MSB I've tasted recently.
My preference for it was beginning to slide but this has reignited my interest again
Excellent fruit notes and very well balanced acidity
I felt this drank well both straight from the the fridge and when a little warmer, my preference actually being colder

Having drunk 2011 JE & Brothers, I think I may actually prefer MSB in its youth provided its not too acidic

Wonderful stuff !

Lighter in body than the Wairau Reserve but with plenty of blackcurrant mixed with something else. Perhaps a vague hint of lemon grass ?

Can handle the cold but warmer is always best. Not sure that this will age well.

Very nice and at £9.99 beats the Explorer's Vineyard to the title of best sub tenner MSB 2012.

g

Added note....I think the something else is cranberry or redcurrant.

Sadly I'm now out of stock but this is by far one of the best MSB I've had in a long while
Got to keep my eyes peeled forfeiture co-op offers

You may want to get down to your Co-Op for the sale. No Cote d'Or Burgundies of any description though - However in my across the river Thames quest, I found these:

The Villa Maria 2013 cellar section is going through the till for £7 !

Also, I took a risk with these **

1) Domaine Brocard Chablis Premier Cru 2010 - £9 (Goose said he detected cork taint, but I like the 1er 2010's)
2) ** Billaud-Simon Chablis Premier Cru 'Mont de Milieu' 2008 - £9
3) Billaud-Simon Chablis Premier Cru 'Vaillons' 2010 - £9
4) Billaud-Simon Chablis Premier Cru 'Vaillons' 2009 - £9
5) **Chateau Le Bonnat Graves, 2006 - £7 (not a big saving, just interest),the back label says good to 2015, so be it !
6) Chateau Le Bonnat Graves, 2008 - £7
7) Cote du Rhone villages Gabriel Meffe 2012 - £5, the cork & foil stopper version. £2.99 less than Tesco on the CdR Reserve which is not villages and is screwcap.
Prats Symington Douro 2008 (£11.99) £7, less than Morrisons who want £8.99.

(NB all B-S chablis 1er is £18.99 on the till) You have to ask for the Brocard deal Stores that have wine coolers - Look in there, I found the 2010 vaillons in there.

Very low stock of (1) & (2) & (3) only one of each.
6 x of (4) the B-S vaillons '09
* Very low stock of the Graves, maybe only 4 bottles, only bought one of each.
Good stock of the VMCS and CdRV

Thank you Shez. Here's hoping the Mont de Millie has survived. On the risk side, I have agreed with the Store that wines that could be dead, can be retuned for refund.

Mel's TN notes 18 months ago:

Domaine Brocard Chablis Premier Cru 2009
£12.99
Northern Burgundy
100% Chardonnay
n/a
12.50%
Quite a rich nose. This has some depth, some ripeness. It lasts well. Great food wine.

Billaud-Simon Chablis Premier Cru 'Mont de Milieu' 2008
£16.99 Chablis
100% Chardonnay
Unoaked
13%
Creamy nose. Very full-flavoured and ripe. Lovely.

Dunc,

Glad to hear you hit the jackpot at your co-op
As it happens, I drank a 2008 mont milieu just last weekend. I was intending to post a basic TN today
I can confirm it was holding up well - as a non Chablis drinker it was delightful
Think the Billaud simon use a bit of oak in this wine
My local still has it for £19 but I'll go back and check today

I've had the 2008 Bonnat too. One bad experience and once pleasant experience
So think there's some bottle variance here. Would say to drink up sooner rather than later

Shez,

Thanks, I suprised the VMCS '13 was going thru at last years clearance price, CS keeps well.

Excellent news on the B-S domaine 1er chablis bargains, really pleased with your note. Bonnat, well, I hope it wasn't the 2006 ** that was a dud. One always takes a punt, nothing ventured ......

Cheers, enjoy your week-end

The vaillons is labelled to be deleted at my store but they're still asking £18.99 for it
Guess it's a waiting game for now...
